'06 WRX performance figures?
 

Has anyone heard what the 2006 WRX performance figures are like? I wonder how much the 2.5 L and extra torque will help 0-60, 1/4 mile?

according to C&D,

0-60 in 5.8

1/4 in 14.4@95mph

Ha, that's the same time, if not slower than the EJ20. They must be shifting easy or didn't get that great of a launch. The MY 02-05 WRX 5 speed is advertised as 0-60mph in 5.4-5.7, depending on who you ask.

Those times represent the 02-05 wrx I think. The new car has a 2.5l engine and should be at least a few tenths quicker.

I believe you are correct, the test they did was with an 05 wrx and it was for their pocket rocket comparo.

I believe that the 0-60 time is 5.2 Sec

and the 1/4 times is 14.1 Sec

I would expect the '06 WRX to be quicker from a standing start than previous USDM WRXs, even with revised gearing. Look at how well the Forester XT performs with a 5MT with weight and engine specs very similar to the new WRX.

Have any magazines conducted a performance review of a production model, yet?

thanks. i saw a C&D comparo for June where they got the 05 WRX against an RSX type S, Saturn Red Line, Cobalt SS and Dodge SRT4. The WRX was actually one of the slower cars and only pulled a 6.0 in 0-60 and 14.6 in the 1/4 mile. Maybe the car was green b/c C&D got 5.4 0-60 and 14.4 (i think) back in '02 w/ the WRX.

The WRX finished 2nd behind the RSX in the comparo, but what bothered me most was that all the cars had summer tires while the WRX was stuck w/ its 16" RE92s. I wonder if it would have taken 1st w/ the optional 17" rubber?

I think Subaru has to keep up on the performance front w/ some of these cars coming out and having 200+ hp and lower prices. Granted, the WRX isn't really in the same class w/ the likes of a Cobalt and Red Line, but it is nice to see them bumping the power a bit.

People always seem to forget that the driver is a factor in those times; those who are good at launching 2wd vehicles may not be able to cleanly launch an AWD vehicle. Certainly with a good launch the 60-foot and 0-60 times should be extremely short; I've seen a factory WRX get below 5 seconds (OK, 4.95 :) ) with the addition of summer tires.

There's no way the WRX should end up behind the RSX. I've driven both the RSX and the supercharged version of the Cobalt, and they are markedly slower than my 02 WRX (factory stock, just tires and now springs and swaybar) everywhere except the highway. As always, a straight-line contest with the WRX is a waste of time, as that isn't the conditions it was designed to perform under.

I'm also very interested to see some real numbers from the 06 WRX; I have to admit I'm still a bit puzzled by the switch to a 2.5 liter engine. With the minimal bump in stock HP/torque, it seems like either Subaru is trying to build an affordable tuner car and let the aftermarket take over (which seems unlikely, considering their strict interpretation of the warranty) or the .5 displacement is a safety margin.

I've driven many of the Saturn redlines and those things are very underated from factory... And handle well also I got the chance to auto-x one and it was fun hardly any understeer unlike the wrx... Either way tho i'd take the WRX I travel to Reno alot and need AWD... And the RSX is a waste of time who wants to wait for Vtec to kick in at 5800RPM

2.5L change was done to cut costs on engine development I believe. They want to standardize on one engine for all their cars. Its already in the STi, Forester, Legacy. People who want to mod it will benefit greatly, others will benefit somewhat with a small power gain.

I agree, wholeheartedly, the 2006 leaves a lot to be had with tuners who work with reflashing etc... they will be able to crank out a lot of power outta that sucker!

I cant wait to see what COBB gets outta the 06 wrx

I bought a 2006 WRX Gray on 9/9/05. I owned a 2005 WRX a few months ago(Hurricane Katrina flooded that one) Between the two, I can say that the 17" rims make a big difference in cornering. The take-off and acceleration is much smoother and you can really feel the extra 18lbs of torque. Decent acceleration in 5th Gear. Turbo lag much less noticeable.

I went out yesterday and test drove one and it amazing.. Almost as fast at my STI was stock.. The salesman encouraged me to drive as hard as I wanted that he couldn't be scared LOL
