Bought an STi, few questions
I just picked up an STi and I need to take this damn wing off. Anyone know what I can do to fill the holes so they dont rust out?
I am going to look at some other wings, or possibly replacing the trunk...but regardless, the wing has to go.
Also, I was wondering if anyone knew where I can get some of the OEM stuff for lower cost. Probably the armest extension (my elbow never hit it on my wrx with a short shifter, so me likey) boost gauge, and fog lights. I looked on subaruparts.com but didnt see the foglights there. Will the 02-03 wrx armrest ext. work in the 04 sti?
I was thinking of going with an aftermarket boost gauge too...not sure how to tap into the vac lines tho. Is it tough?
Thanks!

Well the stock cubby in the armrest is about waist level, so you can't really rest your arm on it if you wanted to. What the armrest extension does is its a cubby in itself, and it hinges to where the old cover's flip top is, so you can flip the whole armrest to gain access to the old cubby, and the armrest itself opens up to be another cubby. All of that adds about 3-4 inches to the overall height of the armrest section, plus about 1 1/2 inches length to it, all towards the shifter.
For smaller guys like me that can shift without hitting the armrest, its a godsend for when i wanna.........rest my arm, but for some taller folks with longer arms, they would keep hitting it and therefore its a bane.
I can't live without my armrest extension.
Man i said armrest extension 8 times in this whole post.

i could swap trunks with someone, but i need a quick fix for now. i need to plug up those holes with something so they dont rust out in the meantime. i might just have the body shop i go to fill them in.
yea, the armrest ext. never bothered me in my wrx. i am going to try the sti without the ext. for a little, see how i like it. if i miss it, ill just plop one on.
anyone know where i can get the oem fog lights cheaper?

i was going to sit in the STi before even discussing anything with the dealer...i need leg room and head room...and an armrest...hopefully that STi in their showroom has that armrest extension...ill see how it goes
I found most of the STis I've found didn't have the armrest extension. Most of the ones in my area (greater DC/Bmore area) have the wheel locks and security system installed, no armest. But I've seen a number of WRXs that have the armrest extension so sitting in one of those with it and one without should be a good 'rough' idea of what it would be like. The interiors shouldn't be that different.
I'm 6'2 (6'3 on a good day
) so I'm probably going to need that armrest extension too... although with out that armrest being there it certainly does make it easier for the ladies to give you some TLC while driving.

you can get the oem armrest ext. from www.subaruparts.com for 40-50 bucks off. I bought my oem stuff from them last time. saved me a lot of money.
just picked up my car. man, this thing is going to be fun. i may not be able to work a full day today...go do some driving
the dealer couldnt find a local blue sti with silver wheels, so i have the gold. i think i am going to have to paint these suckers. i love the rally car, but man...gold wheels just isnt me.
i dont want a cf trunk. just blue with no wing. cf hood...now thats another story.....
