stock unit does it have a amp
stock unit does it have a amp
Sup , names joel and i'm not a stranger to this site. MOSTLY vividracing but they don't have that much info.... well my question is, do stock radio have a bulit in amp that can limit the performance of speakers if so where and how do we by-pass it to get the best sounds. I have polk momo db6500 in the front cheaps in the back and one rockford fostgate power sub ( STAGE 2 )
Yes there is a built in amp to drive the speakers inside the stock deck. The stock deck does not have enough power to drive those speakers to their potential. If you are an electronics guru you can disassemble the deck, find the connections between the pre-amp and post amp and solder in some RCAs for connection to an external amp. Non-geniuses like me would get an external amp that has high-level inputs allowing you to connect your speaker outputs from the stock deck to the new amp or you can buy line-level converters which connect to the speaker wires and have RCA's coming out allowing you to use any amp that you want. Something like this - http://www.crutchfield.com/S-KB3JX7Z...&i=142SLC4#Tab
Soooo- If I replace the stock unit I don't have to worry about the factory amp? Or would I have to still worry about a stock amp hold the speakers performance?? I'm asking because I read a post in vivid and a guy posted that he Had to replace some stock amp to get the best performance to his speakers! And he already replaced the Head unit. And thanks for the info I'm plan on getting a Jvc radio that doesn't have sub preouts.
The amp is built into the head unit (at least in my '05 RS). Some cars (non-subaru) with bose premium sound have external amps stashed somewhere else but I think all the subys just have the amp in the deck and the sub under the seat has it's own built in amp. So the short answer is, when you replace your deck the built in amp will be gone.
