Replacing Front & Rear Speakers

Need some help. My stock speakers are starting to go out. What size of speakers fit the 02-05 WRX?

Thanks

Ed

I have 5 1/4 component speakers w/ spacers from IAPerformance.
Got the Rockford Fosgate Power series hooked up with a 4-channel Eclipse amp and I couldn't be happier.
Just my .02

I put 6.5 Alpine Type S components in front and 6x9 Alpine Type R behind back seats (made custom spacers from 3/4" MDF board and had t do some cutting)

I have the Polk Momo 6.5 components (MM6501) in the front, the tweeters fit in the stock placement and Polk Momo 5.25 (MM521) in the rear running off a Pioneer (DEH-P800PRS) head unit with JL Audio 500/4 amp with 2x Polk SR 12" subs (SR124-DVC) in the trunk running off a JL Audio 250/1 Amp and it sounds incredible. Polks give you a very nice warm sound that you won't get from Aplines and specifically Fosgates because they have silk tweeters instead of aluminum. if you have any other questions feel free to ask.

i appreciate everyones info. i'm gonna start compiling the shopping list to figure out whats still available and how much. rear deck speakers sound the most interesting at this point.

do you guys all recommend a 4 channel amp just for the speakers? does it just help with the sound delivery? or is it only for the hardcore guys in competition?

Jin 05-26-2009 05:48 PM

match the 4ch amp with the speaker your getting (rms wattage).
if you like to listen to your music loud, it'll definitly help.
i like to drive with my window down and with exhaust blasting, i have to turn the volumn high and it tends to distort, you wont have this problem if you get a decent 4ch.

you can get casual or competition quality, its up to you and your budget.

i dont know if you're considering sony but i'd like to say stay away from sony :/

i'm not much of a fan of sony audio products for the cars either.

I would suggest Boston SL65's for the front doors and SX55's for the rear. They are effecient enough to run off deck power and they will handle upwards of 150 watts of amp power as well. The best part is they use neo magnets that are powerful but light and shallow.

Their subs are great too because they use really small boxes.......

For some reason Crutchfield says the rear won't fit onto an 04 wrx. Can anyone confirm this?
