Remote start in 01rs 5MT
Remote start in 01rs 5MT
First of all ive been reading the forums, along with nasioc, and rs25 for months. They led me into getting a 2.5rs (which my dad says i love it more then is healthy) and now i finally want to know something that it appears has not been posted to death aready.
I would like to put a remote start/keyless entry/alarm in my 01 2.5rs. I live in Massachusetts which means no one will install a remote start on a 5MT. I dont see any risk of it if it was connected to the "neutal wire" which makes it not start if the car is in gear. I know these are on the wrx and i assume the rs, but i wanted to make sure.
Also is there any chance I could get it done in NH, the live free or die state?
What problems/hassles are associated with this operation?
What model should i get (cheep is good, i dont need lcd remotes, or a super alarm, just something to get me some money off my insurance. The remote trunk lid would be cool, as well as a big range)
How hard is it to put these in?
The only reason i want to get an alarm is for my insurance, to get 5% off i would need...
-ignition cut-off switch in combination with flush or tapered door lock buttons
-ingition cut-off switch operated passively or protected by armored tubing or cable
-non-passive, externally operated alarm
-internally operated alarm
-steering column armored collar
This seems like a lot of stuff, so if its not worth it thats equally good information. I have Hanover insurance, along with my mom who is getting the discount on the factory alarm on an 01 legacy.
I did search for this stuff...and still had quite a few questions...
Thank you, any help in the quest for a nicer car is well recieved, and thanks for reading all that!

i just bought a 2005 legacy here in california... that means they can't install the remote start... BUT from what i was told by some of my buddies who work for goodguys that did the install... is that i just need to ground a wire to somewhere in the body and that'll do it. btw i'm using a viper 791xv alarm system. best suggestion for u. get to know some of the alarm installers and ask them which wire it is... chances are they'll hint it to you. hope this helps

i live in NH and have a remote starter on my 00 2.5rs 5mt
i actually got it for christmas last year, i think my mom brought it to sound system in manchester nh.
it works great adn i love not having to scrape this ice off in the winter. the only issue is that i have to put the car in neutral and pull the ebrake up twice, the second time all the lights come on and the car stays running when i take the key out. it shuts off once i lock the doors with the remote. that's the "activating" sequence for the starter...but once i got into the habit of it it wasn't bad.
why won't they install one in mass?

There are several alarm companies that support remote start on a manual trans car. I sell Autopage and Clifford and both support a manual trans RS.
The Autopage RS855LCD will do it when installed properly and so will the Clifford G4 add on remote start and G4 Solaris. Don't buy the Matrix Crap because it won't do RS on a 5 spd. I have a Autopage on my car with RS and it works great. Good Luck
Scott
And I have yet to see a law against it and I live in the republic of Kalifornia.
