Integrate iPod into stock deck
I've got a 2006 Impreza 2.5i with the stock radio/CD player. I am trying to integrate my iPod video into the deck. Now I've heard that if it is a Clarion deck I can get the iPod adapter and utilize that. The other type of deck I've heard Subaru uses is a Matsush|ta, which means Panasonic; and I know Pana also has an iPod cable for their decks. Now can anyone first off please assist in determining what brand of deck I have, and secondly, some feedback on either the Clarion or Panasonic adapters in combination with the Subaru deck? Thank you.
I believe you'll have to pull the deck out to see what brand it is. Now as far as the adapter, are you hoping to be able to control your ipod from the head unit? If so I think you'll have to buy a new deck. If you just want an aud in adapter, you should be able to get one of those fairly cheap. This will allow you to hear the music through your speakers but you'll have to control everything on the ipod.

It'd be nice to be able to control the iPod, but it's not necessary. My main concern is to get high quality audio from the iPod to the deck, therefore avoiding an FM modulator. I guess I'll see if I can find someone that's able to cleanly take out the deck for me to see which unit it is so I can find the right cable for it.
Anyone here tried either the clarion or panasonic adapter/cable with the impreza 06 deck yet?
Thanks again.

Taking out the deck is simple, you can easily do it yourself. Pull up on the shifter boot and that piece will pop out. This will give you access to two screws, unscrew the screws and pull the piece off that surrounds the stereo. It'll seem stuck but work your fingers around it and pull, it'll pop off. Now you can unscrew the metal cage and pull out the entire unit. Check the back of the stereo, if it's not there you may have to pull the din pocket off and check the bottom. Once you figure out what kind of stereo you have you can try to order the part for the rca cables. Be carefull when you pull out the cage because there are some sharp metal edges that easily scratch the dash area.

Well the deck is probably a Clarion; another 06 owner had his deck swapped recently and the back of the unit has the CeNET connector, so the iPod cable from Clarion should meet my needs.
However, if I do want to change my deck, can someone recommend a unit with iPod AND Bluetooth support? Thanks.

1- The Subaru dealer told me that if the number on the front plate of the player starts with "C", it's Clarion, if it's "P", it's Panasonic (Matsu****a Electric).
Mine is C122.
2- In the user manual, it says that an optional CD Changer can be added to the stock player. The Changer sits in the empty DIN space just below the stock player and is connected to it because it can be controlled from the stock player...
3- A local radio installer told me that the stock player is most likely a Clarion and that if it supports an external changer, it surely has a CeNet connector on it but that he doubts that it does (which has been answered in no 2 above).
So I'm at the point where I'm confident enough that a CeNet connector IS present on the back of the stock player to open it up and check for myself. If it does, I'm ordering the EA1251B (http://clarion.com/ca/en/products/20...706936740.html) .
Is crutchfield my best option? I'm in Canada.
Thanks!

Yup!
Well, finally got to open the subie's dash.
There is a CeNet connector on the back of the stock player. There are a total of 4 connectors : CeNet, the big connector (speakers, power, etc), antenna, ground.
The player is branded Clarion pf-2597a-b.
Can't find anything on that particular model number anywhere. It must be a custom built part for Subaru cuz the Subaru logo is also present on the sticker.
Anyway, just ordered my EA1251B from a local dealer. Should have it installed before next weekend.
Will keep you updated with pictures of the installation process.

It's in!
Hey there!
Just wanted to keep you updated on the iPod.
The Clarion EA-1251B is installed in my 2006 2.5i with stock CD player. It sounds amazing! I don't know if I'm just going crazy but it sounds clearer than the CD player...
I'll have some pictures up of the installation tomorrow.

I know this is a tad old, but would you happen to know what would be needed if you wanted just an AUX connector instead of the ipod port? just wondering because the link above on how to do the convert says that you can only play the songs straight through in order that they are on the ipod and i like to jump around a lot...
is it possible to select the song you want then plug the ipod into it and just have that played? or does the clarion HU reset the ipod when plugged in?
i currently drive a 2.5i '07 and it's the same HU as far as i can tell

Aux input instead of iPod

1- You'll be a safer driver
since you won't always be looking at your iPod.
2- The AUX input won't be charging your iPod while it's plugged in so you'll need to have it plugged to your 12V plug at the same time...
You can't choose a song and then connect the iPod on the iPod adaptor because as you can see on my screenshots, the adaptor takes over the iPod... no controls on the iPod work at all while it's connected (mine always has the lock turned on when it's connected).
After some research, I found that what you want is called the : EE-1155B-A
I can't seem to find it directly on Clarion's site (it seems to be pretty old - around 98-99) but it seems to make sense in the following PDF's and other following links:
http://www.teamclarion.com/Sharedweb...nput%20Box.pdf
http://www.clarion.com/us/en/support...x.html#ANCHOR2
http://www.google.com/search?q=EE-1155B-A
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/arch...hp/t-2595.html
The only other option I found (except the iPod adaptor) is thie PIE CLR AUX adaptor.

The only problem with this is that it NEEDS you to have a changer connected to the CENET jack on it. It won't work without a changer. Dunno if CENET "Terminators" exist (thinking of SCSI devices here) and if that would do the job but if you do have a changer installed, this would do the job (but what's the point of having a changer if you can plug your iPod!).
Anyway, hope this helped a little!
PS. I like to jump around a lot too but I realized that I've changed my music habits in the last months (in the car at least). My 5 custom playlists are pretty short (not more than 30-40 songs) and I change them often (twice a week). It takes 5 minutes, I have awesome sound quality, it charges my iPod and I'm a safer driver

BTW: My 2006 Subie is up for grabs (it's a rental so I can't sell it). My girlfriend is pregnant with twins and we already have a 2 yo daughter and the 3 child seats don't fit on the back seat (I'm 6'2")
So if anybody wants more info, PM me!

well isn't the 'EE-1155B-A' and the 'PIE CLR Aux' both just aux units for the head unit? so in the end they do the same thing pretty much right?
bah why do these things have to be so difficult, maybe i should just replace the whole head unit to begin with
