whats your price range?

honestly, working at a car dealership, we get some used cars with some no name brand headunits and they look like crap and perform like crap and also navigating the settings is terrible let alone the way they display stuff. Id get something that is atleast well known, doesnt have to be pioneer or alpine, but maybe something like clarion

Get a decent one at least.

skip ebay. all you'll do is waste money and end up buying another unit.

Sometimes Frys has some killer deals, and if you say something like "_______ has this same exact unit for $XXXX.XX, I might just buy it there" the employ will generally give you a better deal. That's how I got a Hard-drive for $10 cheaper.

Heedz 04-21-2012 08:25 AM

fry's still does not have good headunits half the time.

theoutbackdream 04-21-2012 10:07 AM

Well, IMO its better than buying from ebay.

Anyways sometimes the employees give a good deal.

those kenwood double dins are supposed to be amazing but a little pricey

Kenwood DVD/NAV's have a great interface but are obscenely slow.

Alpine has a crap interface, but is fast. And as an aside, the iPod interface rules.

Pioneer has the best NAV and speed. Their iPod interface can be slow pending on how much music you have, but it's still far more acceptable than the Kenwood. IMO the AVIC-X940BH is the best deal out atm, you can pick one up off Amazon for about $650-ish last I checked.

+1 to the Avic BT. Interface looks good, adjustability and also inexpensive for a more quality product.

nosbusa 05-14-2012 10:29 AM

i manage a car stereo shop. the best unit i think is the pioneer. i personally have the avic z120bt in my 07 outback and i wouldnt have any other unit, unless it is the new avic z140 which is the upated model of mine

Brfatal 05-14-2012 10:39 AM

I picked up my AVIC-X930BT for $500 shipped from an authorized Pioneer vendor last year. Could have gotten another one without nav for $330. I can't believe someone would actually consider an off-brand piece.
