6 x 9 speakers behing back seats

2 Attachment(s)
Replaced 4" speakers located in rear doors with 6 x 9 Alpine Type S that I installed behind seats. I had to make 3/4 " MDF spacers (wrapped in fabric).
HUGE difference in quality and power of sound. Even without subwoofer I get nice base

Looking good I was thinking about doing the same thing. Was it difficult to do?

That looks reeally great

I'm curious if you can get them to mount underneath the rear deck so they are hidden. If so, I will do this.

I dont think you have that much room under the deck but then again I might be wrong.

You could but it would be hard to set everything up because of making a spacer/bracket for it. I took out the stock 4"s and put in 6.5's all around then cut open 6.5 holes in the rear and put speaker covers to vent air into my cabin for my 1600 watts worth of bass from my 2 RE SX10's

yeah that is the concern. I have subwoofers so the bass getting into the cabin would be an issue without a cut out...
However, honestly if i could get a solid set of 6X9's back there which could give off some LFE and decent tone, I would get rid of the subs negating the need for cut out. I already have an amp hooked up and everything so the wiring is already in place. decisions decisions. Since we are on the subject, can anybody recommend any 6X9's which can handle bass without clipping?

Sweet! Now that i've seen it done thats going to be my project this weekend. I purchased some Polk audio 6x9's from best buy that sounded great in the store so hopefully they sound just as good in the back of the car bouncing off the glass.

hwob90 03-11-2011 10:05 PM

Remember in the store the speakers are like in a giant box resonating so its going to sound different in the car unless you make some sort of mount to box the underside

I hooked up my speakers to an amp, if you wanna get a nice bass make sure to settle the speakers on MDF

Did you do the install?

1JavaBlk_in_Sac 03-04-2012 11:05 PM

Install is easy, in my case the biggest pain was to clear those trunk tension bars, that's why I had to use spacers.

_miggysmalls 06-16-2012 06:13 PM

did you need to remove the middle seatbelt to mount those? it looks as though you did, was this pretty difficult?

1JavaBlk_in_Sac 06-20-2012 08:21 PM

I had to remove middle seatbelt.
