Ok after checking the familial schedule I have come to the conclusion that I am going to run in the rally rather than work it ( I can't commit to all the driving days required to work)

Here is a snippet from our honored rallymaster
Originally posted by Rallymaster Joe
If you've never done one the all night Montes, you've got to try this. Since we're almost entirely on the backest of roads, after 11pm the locals are pretty much all tucked in and the gendarmes are often nursing java at the donut shops, so the roads... well, they're just as empty as you'll ever find them. Nobody but us rally cars.
For all you who haven't done this for a while, time to dig the old Hellas out of the garage and hook 'em up. This one's got your name on it.

Also, rather than have groggy, sleep deprived crews do the scoring on arrival, we plan to have groggy, sleep deprived crews do it that afternoon. Scoring will be announced Saturday evening at a BBQ/Worker appreciation party. Even if you can't make the rally, please plan to come to the BBQ. It will be in the Lebec area about 7pm. (If you don't run the rally, we ask that you contribute $15 per person for the BBQ.) Please let us know by email or phone if you want to attend the rally and BBQ, or just the BBQ.

MIDNIGHT RUN could be the last Monte Carlo event until Ron Dunlop's ITN 2004, Lost Mines and Ghost Towns, The Gold Country II, in November (16 hour rally). July and August have historically had turnouts too low to make it worth all the time and effort. September is very busy with rallies upstate and down, and this October there is the SCCA navigational rally challenge event in Santa Maria, which most of the ITN club plan to run.

Some have expressed interest in August 28 as a possible date for THE OLD ROADS this year, probably 7 hours finishing in the Temecula area. Unfortunately, this year we really can't commit the resources necessary to put it together unless we have enough pre-entries. Please reply to this email separately if you want to run August 28.

Meanwhile, make your plans for MIDNIGHT RUN, starting in Lebec Friday night, June 18, and for the Worker BBQ Saturday, June 19. BE THERE!

Thanks to all of you for your continued interest and support.

See you at Standoff.
For those of you wondering about the SCCA Road Rally Event there is more info here http://www.smscc.org and here http://challenge.smscc.org//USRRC2004.pdf . Basically its an SCCA sponsored 3 day event. Looks to be a lot of fun.

in Summary:

The Midnight Run might be the last chance to do one of these events for a while unless you are planning on doing the SCCA event or a 16 hour rally in Nov. Dig your flashlights out and come join us for a night time back road blast, and some yummy BBQ the next day!

If you are interested in the Aug. 28th event, let me know and I will let Joe know that there is interest in it.

couple weeks to go. Time to check those lost few mods that you are planning on "testing". This is going to be epic, I hope that you guys can join us for all the fun. If you are planning on attending please email Joe at carzero@aol.com. We are just trying to determine how many people are coming so we can have the proper number of maps, instructions and work crews ready for the night.

That's right an ITN video clip!!

One of the SoCal3G guys put together a video of one of the sections of "Angel's Crown", the previous ITN Rally.

Rally Pre-Check Report

well after 13 hours of driving through the night
500 Miles of Canyon Carving and Desert blasting
2 tanks of gas
1 gallon of coffee
$10 in misc. snacks
3 meals at roadside dives
I found out one thing.

...you guys and gals are in for the drive of the year!:D

Time Change Notice: New Start time is now 10:01p

That's right it will start an hour earlier. This only really affects the Regular and Expert Classes. You will still get instructions at 9p and your out time will be 10:00 plus your car number.

The rally is straight forward and the roads should be familiar, we have done them before. The biggest change will be the fact that we are running this between 10p-7a rather than 2p-10p.

and yes you read right, I did 500 mi last night, through the canyons , mountains and deserts. Did the full ITN course and went the long long way home.............through yet another set of canyons. Man that was some of the best driving. Canyons Runs at Dawn are AWESOME !!

well, that's it for now, I think its time to pass out, I have been up since Friday morning.

ok I think I am alive again. Man one week and 1200 miles. My ass hurts. But hey I got two weekends of some fantastic driving in.

Things I learned from "The Midnight Run":
I am not as young as I used to be
No matter where you get a standoff, at 3a they are all really Freaky
(+)standoff location with a portapotty, (-) standoff next to a cemetary. SO4 had both
The next Midnight Run should only really be 4 hours long (I hope)
Understeer make's Carol go HEY!, Oversteer makes her go YaY!. go figure.
Rota's are very very strong!....don't ask
One cannot survive on sugar alone.
You know you have had too much caffine and sugar when you can't stop vibrating.
A good place to dump dead bodies
goats are very curious creatures
the faster you drive to your next work station, the more "nappy" time you get before the cars come in.
If you have enough lights, you can make people dive off the road when you "flash to pass"
Congrats to Ducktapeguy on his win. Congrats to the rest of you for Surviving.
Sorry to hear that some of the Subaru guys ran into a bit of trouble, They were probably on the look out for that low flying Subaru with airplane lights that has been terrorizing the area of the last two weekends. Greg and Jesus managed to garner the attention of the local PD as well, but they were not as lucky (79 in a 55 )

At any rate that was fun. I hope all of you had a good time. Sorry about the level of disorginzation at beginning. With the accident on the 5 and the fact that we were short two crews, and those last three cars that joined up at 10p. We were all a little bit frazzled.

On a side note . Car 13 is friggin nuts. Oh and Charle's so are you! and I hope I didn't blind DTG when he was coming down CB the wrong way, I tried to turn the lights off before you got around the corner.

I hope to see everyone at the next one.

RR :D

ps: If anyone has found out any details about the accident on the 5 before the start, I would like to know. Nothing morbid, but I was expecting a couple other cars, and I just want to make sure it wasn't them :(. thanks for your help. If someone can update me to the final standings, I would like to congratulate the people properly. Sorry I was at the end, but I had to be at a funeral by 9a. And amazingly I made it on time

and don't forget to save the date for:
