The schedule for the first part of the year is up as well. Start saving the dates. "Baby Steps" on Feb. 05 2005 will be the first event of the year. Its going to be set-up as Road Rallying for dummies event. There is an extended period before the rally where we will be covering Road Rally basics such as timing, route intructions, check point ettiqute and map reading. It will be followed be a short 2 Hour road rally into the hills of the North San Fernando Valley which should prove eye opening to anyone who doesn't know the secrets that those hills can hold. All this for just $5.00 Don't miss it out !! In years past, Training Wheels has been the traditional start of the ITN rallye season. This year it will be held in the lovely areas surrounding Temecula, Ca. on March 26, 2005. We will still be holding a Navigator's School prior to the rally, but we are hoping to step up the difficulty of the Rally Challenge with this event. The roads surronding the Temecula area are awesome and shouldn't be missed. these EVENTS and future events will be listed here keep an eye out. Come on out, I am helping with writing, instructing and working these first few rallies. I may even manage to compete in one later. Its should be a sight, crazy old guy in a WRX with a million lights being screamed at by a crazed pregnant lady as his navigator  feel free to ask questions if you have them. We will spend a lot of time explaining the basics, so if you have never done anything like this, this is a good event to start out with. Feel free to ask questions if you have them. Slight change in start location I see! Still works for me. Hope to see you there, just waiting to hear back from two "maybe" navigators.
|
we were limited to the start location by the requiement of a classroom setting to hold orientation. The rest of the rally should be the same though. I think additional time was added to the rally to get the people out of town and onto the fun roads that we had meant to use.
Hope to see some new faces out there. :D |

i almost pee my pants on the last rally.. averaging 60-80 mpg on back road i barely made it to each check point within 1-2 minute..and almost hitting a dirt hill.. running pass flooded roads and 8000k HID is not quite bright enough for completely dark roads.
but it was fun....i would definately encourage ppl to try this.. i need a better navigator thou... my navi was =p |
glad you had fun. :D what were you driving? I was easy to spot, I was in the silver WRX with giant lights on the side of the road waiting for you
|
i was on CGM 05 WRX
i was the one with the high beam on all the time LOL . cuz i really couldn't see at night with the 8k HID i guess i need more AUX lighting.. but relatively i think i did good.. except for the leg without check point and the Course control.. which i wasn't sure what to do.. i did relatively good.. time wise.. but i really had to haul my butt each leg to make it.. almost hit a wall of dirt.. and fallen into puddle of water.. |

You know I'm into it LOL. Hope to see you at the next one. It should be great, I love the roads down there. :) RR :D |
Well it's Official the start location will be at: Cask 'N Cleaver at 3757 S. Misson Rd. Fallbrook, Ca.
cya all there :D |
A note from the Rallymaster:
Thanks to everybody who participated in Baby Steps, a special 4 hour introductory rally on February 5. We had an excellent turnout of 44 cars. Â Results and a critique of the course are up on the website at http://carzero.freeservers.com. Click on results on the left toolbar. We are anticipating a similar turnout for TRAINING WHEELS on March 26. The exact Start location is the CASK & CLEAVER in Fallbrook at 3757 Mission Rd. We couldn't find a restaurant in Temecula that would accommodate us, so we've moved the start a few miles southwest to Fallbrook. They are preparing a special lunch buffet for us featuring burritos, tacos and tostadas for only $8.00 per person, all you can eat. The buffet will open at noon. Registration will open at 10am with the Beginner/Novice orientation from 10:30 to noon. Regulars and Experts will be allowed to receive their instructions at noon also, so everyone should please plan on having lunch at the buffet, if at all possible. The good folks at Cask & Cleaver need the business for us to be able to use the meeting room, so it would be a big help if we all get our lunch there. The rally will Start at 2:00 pm and will run about 6 hours. There will be trophies for 4 separate and distinct classes for this event: Beginner, Novice, Regular and Expert. Each class will have its own course and information so that the level of difficulty progresses with each class. No two classes will have exactly the same course or info. DIRECTIONS TO START: From LA/OC: Go SOUTH on I-5 past Camp Pendleton to OCEANSIDE. Exit the freeway at CA HWY 76. Go EAST on CA HWY 76 for about 12.4 miles. Turn LEFT onto MISSION RD. Go NORTH on MISSION about 2.5 miles. The Cask & Cleaver will be on your left. From Inland Empire/San Bernadino/High Desert: Take either I-15 or I-215 SOUTH until they merge. Continue SOUTH past Temecula about 11.2 miles. Exit the freeway at CA HWY 76. Go WEST on CA HWY 76 about 4.5 miles. Turn RIGHT on MISSION RD. Go NORTH on MISSION about 2.5 miles. The Cask & Cleaver will be on your left. From San Diego: Take I-15 north. Exit the freeway at CA HWY 76 (Pala Rd.). Go WEST on CA HWY 76 about 4.5 miles. Turn RIGHT on MISSION RD. Go NORTH on MISSION about 2.5 miles. The Cask & Cleaver will be on your left. The course for this rally will take us over some of the best roads in the area. The wildflowers are having a bumper year. It promises to be a stellar afternoon drive, with a few Standoffs and Checkpoints thrown in for fun. We sincerely hope you can join us. Also, please put May 21 on your calendar for ANGELS CROWN, an 8 hour Monte that will Start in Santa Barbara and Finish somewhere around Arroyo Grande. As you may have noticed, we move around with the locales of these rallies. It's because we're always looking for new roads to challenge you (and us). The roads for Angels Crown are some of the most incredible, open, empty, and enjoyable roads you can find anywhere on the planet. Rallymaster Justin Murphy is putting together a truly epic rally course. Make plans to be there. Finally, yours truly has written the Santa Monica Sports Car Club's June First Friday Niter. (This had been originally scheduled for this past Friday, March 4, but some of the key roads got washed out, so it's been postponed to June 3.). This is in an unusual form for a TSD rally. You will know your true times in advance, and creeping will be allowed at the Checkpoints. The instructions are in normal TSD format, and there are no intended course-following traps. There are included in the instructions about 20 places where Checkpoints may or may not be located. Each has a referenced sign and an official mileage from Start, so you can know when you've reached the prescribed point on the course. If there's a hose, you creep it, if there's not, you continue. Sound familiar? That's right, it's a Monte rally in TSD format. The rally is Friday, June 3 and is only $10. Start is behind (east side) of the Bank of America at the NE corner of Devonshire and Sepulveda (near the 405/118 interchange) in the north valley. Registration opens at 7pm, with the first car out at 8:01pm. This promises to be an interesting event because of the semi-Monte format, and for the great driving roads included on the course. Â We hope you can make it. If anyone has any questions or comments, please don't hesitate to send me an email. Thanks to all of you for your continued support and participation. See you at Standoff. Carzero.
So it looks like a mexican lunch before a 6 hour rally. Time to get some new air freshners for the car  Hope to see ya'll there RR :D |
