Salt Flats Part THREE!!!

That's right ladies and gentlemen. Tempt Media is hitting up El Mirage for our third visit to the lake bed. Last two times have been a blast and we have enjoyed meeting new forum members from all sorts of different forums each time. This time should be no different.

We are heading out on Saturday, February 19th for a full day of fun (if weather permits).

What to bring:
1) Two way radios.
2) Water and Food that wont rot (it should be 65-75 degrees).
3) A small tool set.
4) Cameras.
5) Your car.
6) Chairs.

What to leave home:
1) ALCOHOL. Bring it and I will have a ranger escort you off of the premises.
2) **** Heads. We already had one mishap with some dumb asses breaking the rules. If you come with us then follow the rules.
3) Guns. There is no shooting allowed there. It is the middle of no where, but guns are still not allowed.

What not to do:
1) DO NOT BREAK THE LAKE BEDS SURFACE.
- NO BURNOUTS.
You can drift and drive the piss out of your car but don’t roast tires in one spot. It leaves holes and can causes serious accidents.

Tempt Media is not responsible for any lost or damaged goods. Bring everything at your own risk. I hope to see many of you there.
anyone wanna rock it with me
What exactly IS it?

Is it a bunch of folks doing donuts, or is it more like a rally-x, with cones and such?

Where is Mirage Lakebed? (would it be worth the drive from Santa Cruz?)

What other "rules" are there, aside from not doing burnouts and not drinking?

Looks interesting...
Where is Mirage Lakebed?
Well, at least I managed to answer that question for myself...

El Mirage Dry Lakebed is about 15 miles Northwest of Victorville... about 5 hours drive from here. If you SoCal folk take the 15 over the San Bernadino Mtns, its about thirty miles beyond the summit.

Now the other question: Whats up with this "event"?

Is it an all day/multi-day thing?

Is it worth 10 hours of commuting?

'Sup?

I miiiiiiight be in. I go to school with Chris (he posts on importxdream) and he showed me some videos from the last one. It's too far ahead for me to know for sure, but I'm definitely interested.

the dry lake bead is where they do all the high speed land record runs
the dry lake bead is where they do all the high speed land record runs
Lately, all the real record-attempts have been out at Bonniville, or Black Rrock Mesa.

La Mirage isn't as large.

So is it speed runs?
Rolling-start drag races?

I'm just trying to figgure out what is involved once people are out on the lakebed.

is this legal?

yayitzian 01-05-2005 04:42 PM

yes it's legal as long as the lake bed is actually dry. If it is raining and you get caught playing in the mud out in the lake bed, then it's a minimum 50 dollar fine like my friend and I got.

I wonder if these storms will keep coming.

It may not be dry enough by Feb 19th.
I hope it is... although I still don't know if I'd make it. Thats a long way from here.

I am so sorry for not responding sooner to all of your questions;

It is legal to go out to the lake bed as long as we follow their rules.
We do all sorts of different things out there. This time we will have a lot of cones and will probably have some type of course setup. You can do top speed runs down the center of the lake bed and a couple of cars that came out last time were drifting. You can come out to do launch testing as well. Over all its just to go out and drive your car in whatever way you like.

Yes, if it is raining the meet will be re-scheduled. That is why I need a form of contacting people interested in going so that you will know at least one week ahead of time.

Mike, this "event" is basically what I wrote right above. It's just a days event in which you can go out and play. A lot of fun can be had. Just about anyone who has gone out with us has had a lot of fun and learned something new about their car.

Hopefully I answered most of your questions...
Are there anymore?
