Need suggestion for computer parts (Building computer 101)
So i was talking to kevin and ed about building a new computer.
I was thinking getting AMD 64. with Abit , asus or gigabyte motherboard. 2GB DDR memory. using my exisiting ATI Radeon 9800 on new computer and i have radeon 7500 for the old computer. new motherboard would have built in 5.1 sound and ethernet.. What else do i need? Suggestion for good CPU and motherboard? I remember people use to tell me Corsair brand ram is really good. |
what do you think coolmaster case?

64 definitely sounds bling. But a lot of applications out there don't use the 64 to its full. Back in the days, AMD K7III was the shiat going against the PIII. But if you're gonna burn this and that, running aps everywhere / to the max, I think Intel's application multithreading is better. Unless you play shat loads of games that really intensifies video / image rendering.
As far as motherboard goes, there is a great variety and plentiful to choose from. It all depends on how much ram you want. I think 64 chips and it's board is somewhat over priced. |
this is cool kinda like a mac server case

ok dude, u have stepped into my realm.
it really depends on your budget, and also, if you plan on using your ATI radeon 9800, i can guarentee it is AGP. it is difficult to find a new asus/abit motherboard that supports AGP, becuase it is obsolete now. you will only find PCI EXPRESS. you are goin to end up using an ECS motehrboard ( very junky piece of **** ). for $200, you can buy a pci express video card that will blow the socks off the 9800 pro. let me konw if you are willing to do so and what your budget it. |
What's the hawt shat video card right now?
i havn't really been looking into the new video card. I current have ati radeon 9800 all in wonder (AGP) I think for motherboard + CPU Video card Ram Maybe $800 total budget. Main use for the system will be for gaming and video editing. |
will.. hook me up with a dell or i'll go powerbook.
|
not working for dell anymore ;x
i offer consulting services now :) |
The price of AMD and intel really varies
AMD 64 2.0 ghz 800 mhz P4 2.8 ghz 533 mhz is about the same price when comparing. $120ish.. |
if you want to use your existing agp radeon you could buy this board
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813157081 and a socket 939 athlon 64 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103535 if you want to spend more money on processor you can go 3700+ or dual core AMD or Intel is mostly preference, I like AMD, some people prefer Intel. |

Frys stuff as usual is junk though. |
i heard dual core is really good.. but still extremely expensive right now.
if i get new board. i might as well match it with PCI express video card.. |
I havn't looking into CPU for a long time.
it's amazing the difference in FSB speed these days. it's like ranging from 533 to 1ghz FSB. I wonder how much of a difference in speed it makes in the same core speed CPUs. |

AMD X2 3800 $300
ASUS A8N-SLI DELUXE MOBO $160 2x1GB CORSAIR XMS PC3200 $200 ati or geforce pci express video card $200 ( i personally wouldn't want a video card that is any cheaper than $200 ) you still need these things if u wanna build a complete computer: a case (lian li pc60b) $130 good power supply (ocz modstream 500 watts) $100 aftermarket heatsink if you want to oc ( zalmann cnps7000) $45 lcd keyboard speakers dvd drive flopppy ? |
