hawks hps pads

are the Hawk Performance HPS any good?
i used to get ebc truck / van pads.. they were ok but very soft.
btw it's not for my car..
it's for my dad's minivan..
i need to get some new pads for his car.. so i'm looking to get some better pads but not spend too much money.

Ichinobu 08-29-2005 10:27 AM

Watch out for the Ferodo, The pad will jack up your rims bad. The pads are dusty as hell ( I know that if good) but when water mixes with the dust and the wheel heats up, it is like powder coating the dust onto your rim. I screwed up two rims with them. The only way to clean them is to sand that crap off. I could not steam clean it off. So watch out for those kind of pads. Unless your tracking and don't care, but its still looks bad.

Paperchasin 08-29-2005 11:31 AM

got em on the sti...they are good...

jsalicru 08-29-2005 02:16 PM

I had them too (Paperchasin's were mine once)...

I just installed them on a Legacy with a BBK (another one, not mine)...

BUT, in case you are interested, I happen to have a set of Legacy GT 12.x" rotors/2-piston calipers with Bobcats sitting in my garage for sale at this time. This is not my personal set since I like to keep my stock stuff.

They warped my rotors... Just make sure you vent them good...or do a cool down drive after driving hard. I also suggest Project U.

Pads don't warp rotors... Users do.

Deep. But i'd have to agree.. No matter what type of crappy pad (pep boys generic, some no-name cheap generic brand for the old prelude, etc) or decent one (raybestos) i've driven on, nothing ever got warped.

let me drive your car

jsalicru 08-30-2005 01:18 PM

here's a simple recipe for example... Go out and do some canyon runs... make sure to stay on the brakes plenty... now here comes the best part.... stop, and keep your foot on the brakes for a bit without any chance of a cool down of the brakes. Maybe you can even put your e-brake on... what happens is that pad material transfers on to the rotor... causing them to "warp"... they aren't really warping... its just that there's more material in that spot.

heh.. i'll experiment with that when i get extra brake pads and rotors. X)

My dad had to get his 240z rotors re-turned but that was due to the fact that the rotors were pieces of crap.... Those rotors were badly warped... He thought he could save some money...

I was a member of the "got caught at >100 club..."

that sucked.

ouch.. In Norcal, I am a member of the "got caught going 50+ in a 35mph freeway on ramp".

Other clubs include the "got caught driving with intimidating 2.5RS wing", "got caught going 75 in a 55 zone", and the ever popular "got caught trying to get past annoying lines in front of the Fastrak lane".

My advice.. Never drive the streets of Palo Alto or Fremont...
