I spent some time talking to his family. They expressed thanks for all of your support. Please continue praying for Ryan and support him in every way you can. His mom and dad gave me permission to post the details. So, here we go...
Last Saturday, around 3p.m. Ryan was coming back from shopping with his girlfriend at the Galleria. They got hit on the driver's side by an old guy in a Chrysler. Whitnesses said that Ryan was going straight, green light, no speeding, the old guy in the Chrysler was in the opposing traffic's left turn lane. The old guy thought that he could make the left turn safely, instead he hit Ryan's car just behind the driver's door. It was a gross misjudgement (by the driver's own admission) on the part of the Chrysler's driver. Because of the wet road, the impact sent Ryan into a spin. The car's passenger side hit the pole on the opposite corner of the intersection. Ryan's girlfriend was in the passenger seat... Damage to the car was very severe. Jaws of life had to be used to extracate them from the wreck. Ryan and his girlfriend were taken to the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance.
Ryan's most serious injury was to the left side of the head. His head struck the B-pillar despite the side airbag. He experienced hematoma (bleeding) on the left side of the brain. Emergency surgery had to be performed to relieve the pressure on his brain. On Sunday his condition worsened as his brain started to swell. Doctors had to remove a part of his skull and a portion of the frontal lobe to prevent further damage. Ryan is currently comatose and is in the ICU. He has not regained conciousness since the accident.
Ryan's girlfriend suffered a laceration to the spleen, possible pelvic fracture, and spinal and neck injuries. She has been out of ICU since yesterday. She is councious and talking, although groggy from the morphene...
If you would like to send Ryan, his girlfriend or his family a "get well" card, a souveneer, a letter, or anything else please send it to me and I will deliver it to him at the hospital.
On behalf of Ryan and his family, thank you all for your support!

On Saturday he opened his eyes. He is still out and he can not recognize faces but he was taken off life support today. Ryan is breathing on his own and his vitals are good. He still has some swelling of the brain and the doctors are predicting that it will probably take another two months before the swelling goes away completely. But, he is responding and clenching his mother's hand. I spent about 15-20 minutes with him today, I did not want to aggrevate him, he needs to rest and heal. Ryan gets agitated when people are in the room, but that is a good sign. He was making some facial expressions and it looks like is is trying to talk... When I walked in and he saw me, I detected a slight smile, I dont know, maybe its just my mind playing tricks on me, or maybe he new I was there...
I took your cards to his mom and dad, Linda and Ed. Tey thank you very much for your support and attention.
Keep it up guys! I am sure it will be interesting for Ryan to read all of this when he is back to normal.
