Vishnu vs. Cobb reflash?

Hey, y'all. I'm pretty new to this game, after recently ditching my '02 Civic SI hatch for an '02 WRX sedan, and now that I'm driving something worthy of tuning, I'm ready to go.

I've been looking into a re-flash, among other things, and have read up heavily on the Vishnu upgrade path. That's where I'm leaning at the moment; however, some people I've talked to swear by the Cobb reflash. What are the opinions and preferences here? Realistically, I'm not aiming at going too heavy-duty; Plans are a reflash, boost controller, and the usual up/downpipe/exhaust/intake combo for good, reliable power for a daily driver. Any thoughts would be very appreciated.

Skip the boost controller, that's what the reflashes are for.

I recommend Cobb. It's cheaper and Cobb has been tuning Subarus since the dawn of time. Subarus is all they do. You could get a little more power out of a personally-tuned reflash, but the off-the-shelf reflash is less-expensive and every bit as safe, if not safer.

Thanks for the insight. You're very helpful. The off-the-shelf reflash maps from every tuner take into account the absolute worst possible effects on every car so that the tuner doesn't get sued when one car melts because the map was a little too aggressive for that particular car. The off-the-shelf reflashes are very conservative; that's why most people would gain more by having their car personally tuned. If anyone believes this to be untrue, please let me know why. Or you can act like a moron, whatever.

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate the help here.

My main problem with dyno tuning and a custom job is finding a shop around here that can do it, and someone that has WRX experience. I live in southern New Hampshire, and there's *nothing* around here that can put up WRX experience and an AWD Dyno. That's why I figured a basic level tune from Vishnu or Cobb would do the trick. Does anyone have any knowledge of a shop in the VT/NH/CT/MA area that can handle this kind of tuning?
