in my opinion..performance is not everything..looks has a little bit of a factor on my decisions...sure the WRX is not the best looking car in the word, but with a few mods they look sweet
how can you say this is ugly:
how can you say this is ugly:
Back in 3/2002, I traded my blue IS300 in for a 2002 Blue WRX (most people at my office didn't even notice!).
This is the story of my IS300:
1) I bought my IS300 when they were brand spanking new. Someone on a waiting list backed out and I got the car at full price + markup. Of course, all the ones on the lot were the ones that are fully loaded (Leather, LSD, etc). Not one cent off, even after negotiating for 6 hours.
2) The car was great (at first). Service was excellent, but things would go down hill fast.
3) Driving a distinquished guest to an event (nobel prize laureate), the plastic underbody shielding rips off for the first time (of many) but not completely, making the most horrible and emabarrassing noise.
4) One shock started leaking and they only replace the one through warranty (I bet if I was paying, they'd insist on replacing at least a pair).
5) Rear LS differential started making noises that they cannot solve, so they change the diff fluid 2 times, only to find out what was wrong with it after my warranty expired.
6) I bent 3 out of 4 rims while driving conservatively. Then I get a recall on the tires (at least I got a new set of tires), no mention of my rims.
7) Recall came for the underbody shielding. Replaced a total of 3 times (twice under warranty and once under recall).
8) Moonroof gasket starts to crack and I never even use it (I don't like the sun in my face, and I have allergies).
9) The driver's seat was making lots of noises (I weight 150lbs!). They replaced what's called a Seat-Back, which took about a month to get the parts. They had some upholstery shop take the leather off the old seat, fixed it with new parts and then put it back on. It took almost one week.
Frankly, I'm sick of driving to the dealership early morning to pick up a rental Camry, ES-300 or RS-300 (yes, I've driven them all, when I should be driving the car that I actually purchased). No amount of coffee, danishes nor croissants can make up for that. Keep in mind, the car was completely stock and had sooo many issues. When the warranty was up and they informed me that they figured out the problem with my rear diff that can be fixed out of warranty ($$!!), that was the last straw.
On the flip side. I have not been back to the Subaru dealership since I got my car a little over a year ago. Not having to worry about warranty repairs and the general quality of my WRX, I now find myself with free time to think about, and to install upgrades/mods to my WRX. I have almost forgotten how fun owning a car can be.
Yes, my expectations were high, but they damn well should be, having paid $38,000 for my IS300 (MSRP + Markup + TAX).
On the other hand, my $24,000 (before taxes) WRX leaves me free time (from not having to go to the dealership every other month) to mod/personalize it.
And one more thing. Since the IS300 does not come in trims (like Hondas), when reselling/trading-it-in, I lost my shirt (goodbye $18,000 downpayment!) on it, because the Kelly Blue Book only looks at the basic car price (without LSD, Wood trim package, heated seats, etc.) based on the amount of miles on it (and I'm a high mileage driver).
I'm sorry it didn't work out more than anyone. But chances are, if I had kept that car, I'd still be at the dealership regularly for repairs that I'd be paying full price for.
Soooo... instead of spending my $$ fixing my IS300, I will spend it to mod the heck out of my WRX. And yes, I know that I will be solely responsible to anything I do to my car. I figure that if I can someday afford a turbo upgrade, then I can afford to rebuild things when I break them.
Sorry about the ranting. I hope I was the only one with such problems with my IS300. But I must admit. They're nice cars (asside from all the troubles).

As much as I loved my old VR6 Corrado, From day one (fuel pump) the car made almost weekly visits to the dealer. My friends got tired of giving me a ride to work. Had that car for 7 years and I guess I just got used to crap breaking weekly. A wheel bearing here, a hatch strut there, water pump, hoses, oil cooler line, head gasket, rear wing 3 times, heater core and the list goes on and on. The WRX has been such a break from the hell of owning a car. I also have a 2001 Audi A4 that has been in and out of the dealer for everything from 5 headlight burnouts to its third clutch ( car is driven very gently by my wife who has driven a manual for 12 years). Can't wait to get rid of it and get a Forester Turbo for her. Think she'd notice if I switched the engine blocks?
LOL!! 2 of those IS guys said they'd win on the highway against a WRX going over 60mph. They on crack?? Must have been racing some crappy drivers.
I've raced those POS's and they blow. They are pretty, I'll give'em that. But if I wanted a prety car I'd buy a Cabrio, or a Beetle.. or some other beeyatch car!!<--- thats a joke.
They just got power envy. WRX'ers don't get style envy....
And they kept saying that chicks dig their ride more, lol who cares about the tire biters, skanky ho's!! Yes please give me women that only like my car, yes, guess if you're womenless and have low standards its cool, dunno.

OK I have to chime in...
All the chix that get in my car, all tell me how nice it is.
I live in Los Angeles, home of the finest chicks in the world. Saturday night, I am driving down Wilshire blvd, right next to Rodeo dr. (one the most expensive retail areas in the world). I am rolling in my black '03 WRX on rims. I see some HID lights on my ***, so I slow down to see who it is, when the hottest blonde in a yellow SLK whips into the lane next to me. I look over, she looks over, we smile and punch it. After showing her a little Rex power she is weaving between traffic trying to catch up, whole time waving at me, smiling, flailing her arms out the window..
So I make a right on a small street, she follows me, I pull over and she pulls over. I hop out, go up to her car, ask her whats up, and she tells me car is dope.. I tell her hers is dope too and she is super cute. I ask her where they are headed tonight she says they are not sure. I told her to follow me and I went to a local bar... And the rest is history
Hmmm, would I buy an IS so that I get smoked by chick cars and have fine chix laugh at me?? I dont think so..
And if you need a car to attract women, you are a loser anywayz...

There's some good looking chicks in LA, but most of them look way too plastic for me.I like the interior of the IS300, but I'll take my Rex for 12G less any day.

I have lived in Oakland, Berkeley and San Fran.. Having been to clubs in both places, All I can say is the finest girl in the bay area wouldnt even get someone to give her directions down here in LA...
There are beautiful women in both spots, just far far far more of them in LA, and because the weather is soo much nicer, you get to see more of them on a regular basis than here in the bay. I do miss home

In LA to get a chick you have to have: A) Money B) Looks C) a good job D) a nice house E) a nice expensive car.
In Bay area A) you need to be breathing B) willing to talk to them..
I agree with DeliciouSpeed, except he didnt mention that most the good looking women in the bay area, come from LA...
In my 4 years in the bay area, I remember missing LA daily and saying to myself and others constantly, where are the HOTTIES???

hot chick are every where but we left most of them in college.
And its not a lexus its a Toyota Altezza, it was designed and sold as a toyota long before it ever came here
SC400= real lexus
IS300 = Altezza- thats why sales have tapered so badly

These California girls (especially in the bay area) think they're "all that" but they really aren't and their attitude is a huge turn off! DeliciousSpeed is correct, there are hot chicks in both areas. In fact, I've been all over the world and I've yet to find a place that lacks good looking women.
Now, I will go out on a limb and say there are way better hotties in Vancouver than LA...and some of them like to hang out at Blunt Brothers, A Respectable Joint!
For the record, I do agree that So Cal has more hotties than the Bay Area - in fact, my lady is from Redondo Beach...
