I would like to start a petition to combat the terrible and unjust vilification of a benign and gentle friend to the EJ engine community: the silicone turbo inlet hose.
I was recently witness to the disgusting prejudice leveled against these helpful, but misunderstood beauties when I took my Forester to more than one smog testing facility yesterday where the total disregard and hate leveled by the technicians there was obvious and sickening. It got bad enough to the point where they told me to leave their premises without services rendered!
Baseless hatred at it's worst, my friends. #SILICONETURBOINLETHOSELIVESMATTER

One time, this moron smog guy off auburn/80 failed my mazdaspeed Miata because the intercooler was SHINY.
The car was, on the day of the smog apt, bone stock. The intercooler CORE was replaced with a slightly larger, bar and plate version. He started the smog test, it passed with flying colors, no issues, then at the very end he goes: "that intercooler looks shiny, you got a CARB sticker for that? I bet it's not legal". Then proceeds to "fail visual" on the car, tells me to come back with a stock one or a carb sticker.
It took all of my self control to not take beat him down to a bloody pulp with the intercooler, right there and then. I was shaking from rage. It was not a good day

Aftermarket Parts Verification Guidelines
EO Verification NOT required during inspection.

You could try arguing that one for the inlet hose, but I think an astute enough technician would point out that it would most like fall under:
EO Verification required during inspection
Intercooler - Equipped with the OEM turbocharger / supercharger
Hose(s) - Minor configuration changes are acceptable.
Universal replacement hose in place of preformed hose, etc.

Air Cleaner / Assembly – 1996 model-year and newer and all years equipped with Thermostatic Air Cleaner

I recall there being an exception for intercoolers. location and size of intercoolers are open for modification. I haven't been able to find the docs though.
That inlet. My master plan was to get a Cobb inlet so it would match my Cobb intake which has a CARB sticker and call it all part of the intake.
But there's also a smog guy near me that has proven to be lax on visual.
Well... ish. He's passed hella **** on my friend's cars. Sent me home when I had a hybrid intake pipe on my NA.

Literally, just posted the document that gets you a pass on intercoolers. lol
In other news, I have no employees today. Two out on leave and the last one just called in sick. I may actually get some work done today.
