Whats the distance?
Ive thought about doing a partial ride. Park at the Sac side of the causeway and ride in from there.
-Dont want to do it when its cold/raining
-Dont want to do it when its super hot
(this leaves very few weeks out of the year to ride)
-Traffic for the rest of the drive home would be worse since it would take longer to bike to that point than drive
-Would suck if I get sick/headache/dont feel good to have to ride back to the car.
Its about 12.1 miles from the Park and Ride to my building...

I'm 6 miles door-to-door. I tried to ride once. Got about 2 miles in, turned around and went back.
I have a friend who rides everyday, rain or shine, and is muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch better shape than me. Her commute is about half of mine and she's all about that bike life--goes on trails rides on the weekends, etc. She said if her commute was any longer, she probably wouldn't ride.

Ive got a couple close friends who sold off their cars in teh last year after living in the heart of The City for the last 3.
No car payments, no monthly parking payments, no monthly insurance payments yada yada yada. He walks/rides/bus to work.
When he wants to head to his parents in Roseville, he rents a car for $150 a weekend. Even doing that once a month was cheaper than his $200 a month parking spot..

when I got my road bike about a year ago I hit cycling HARD. was doing 25-30mi regularly and (12mi each way to work) and a couple times took a 30-40mi ride just for fun. got in shape surprisingly quick and felt great.
and then I stopped all of that about 3 months in. now I'm a fat out of shape blob reminiscing about "the good ol days"
if you can stay motivated, it's probably better than the gym

I don't think either of my coworkers go more than 5 miles. Although a friend of mine bikes a lot. Drives to work. But when he gets home, he will go on a 20 mile ride up the hill by his place. He met up for bike party. Rode his bike to the starting point. Casually adding 20 miles to the 15 mile bike party route. **** just rides and rides...It's crazy expensive to have a car in most cities...
