Emergency Roadside Kit
Ok, I want to put together my own roadside emergency kit so it'll include a blanket/sweathsirt that'll actually kit me, an extra quart of oil thats actually the right kind for my car and so on.
What all should I add? Heres what I can think of...
Jumper cables
flashlight that works
emergency blanket/sweatshirt that fits me
flares/glow sticks
oil
screwdriver, pliers, small ratchet set
electrical tape
zip ties (ya never know)
1-gallon gas can
thick latex gloves
waterproof matches
disposable camera
duct tape
powerbars or similar
water
insulin and medicine stuff (diabetic.....insulin ftw)
two-way radio eventually ( http://motorola.digitalriver.com/DRH...uctID=36234900 )
I know I'm forgetting stuff so list off other things

I know a reflective triangle would be more cost effective than road flares, but fire is fun
fire=pain, pain=cleansing, fire=cleansing?

first-aid kit.
If you haven't put a kit together yet, check out Costco. They have a roadside kit with a triangle,first-aid kit, multi-tool, and a few other things. It would be a good start and it comes in a pretty nice bag.

You also need a disposable camera so that you can take pictures of the accident aftermath. It would have saved me from a long bogus meritless lawsuit that dragged on for a year, before they dropped it two days before the trial.
Don't ever forget: DUCT TAPE
Maybe some glo-sticks, water proof matches, leatherman, Powerbars (or the like), small bottle (1 quart) of DI water (you can drink, and so can your intercooler, radiator, and battery.) Change the work gloves to THICK Latex gloves, they insulate pretty well in the snow and take up less space. Cellphone car charger.

Portable radio?
Hand held GPS....(if you know you stand a hell of a chance of getting lost)
Decent survival knife (like the old Rambo ones with the fishing line, water proof handle, and the compass attached. Save a bit of space.
MATCHES.
Depends on what type of situation you might expect.

Full-sized spare doesn't fit the trunk well in the Impreza, at least from what I remember when I tried to fit one in there.
Roadside reflective triangles are quick to set up, never burn out, and are re-usable, but can't be spotted at night from the sky. I'd carry both flares and glow sticks and add the triangles if space permits. Glow sticks will work even if it's pouring rain and even if they lay in standing water on the shoulder of the road.
Whatever flashlight you keep in the car should be one of those newer 3-watt LED models that never burn out and use less battery power than conventional flashlights. Those things are super bright, too.
