Chris,
no I took the outback wheels off. it was even slower with those.

Inna,
Actually that's the thing: you CAN feel a "shift" every single time, and it annoys me, because I know it's not a real shift, but a simulated shift. I would probably be much less annoyed with it if it wasn't pretending to be something it's not, or at least did the simulated shifts more realistically. This car has less than 10k miles on it, I don't think it's a defect, pretty sure this is what they designed it to do.

Maybe the crosstrek/impreza cvt is different and doesn't do that nonsense?

They introduced the simulated shift in the 2nd generation CVT because everyone complained about the rubber band feeling of the 1st generation CVT. The newer version of the CVT debuted in the 15 Legacy/Outback.

I wish. It's already 39°F/4°C today, and it's still fall.

compare to my 09 impreza it does shift the same, i guess its longer in between shifts. I just turn up the music and it fixes everything lol and some other goodies coming in today

I wouldn't even mind the simulated shifts as much if they implemented them properly. But since it cuts power to "simulate" said shift it's legit making the car slower, for no reason whatsoever.

The only time it shifts somewhat decently is at WOT using the paddles. Then it doesn't cut power and you get a normal shift.
