I used Eclipse Tinting and Security. They did an awesome job, and two years later it looks just like it did when I got it installed. I got the LLumar Metallic at 15% , they do really nice work

Also, there is the Auto Glass Recyclers in rancho, and they also install the glass if I remember correctly.

(Edited for legality.)

I'm partial to Kidwell's Glass on Hazel/Winding Way by Mikuni. I didn't get any glass work done, but two years later I'm still impressed with the Limo-Black tinting job they did for me.

When it comes to window tinting there is NO ONE better then eclipse window tinting... No questions asks this guys is rediculas, he is VERY knowledgable, he keeps up with all the new tints. Also he runs his OWN tests and can tell you everything you need to know, and he gives very good prices!!!! and gives you different routes. I love the guy, he is very nice. I couldnt recommend them more then it comes to widnow tinting. All the Kings players go to him to get their stuff tinted also, he has pictures in his shop of all the famous people and badass cars he has owned/done

I've used this outfit on two occasions. They do excellent work but will only do the windows behind the driver for legal reasons, unless it is a clear UV-only film.

Tend to be on the more expensive side, over $200 for an Impreza I think, but call for an estimate or drop by the place. I will always go back to them because of the quality of the work.

They use very good quality film, including Formula One window film, which has a great lifetime warranty that is honored by Rocky Mountain.

"Come summertime, Sacramentans start thinking of outlandish ways to cool down their cars. Some pack coolers full of towels to rub down sizzling seats. Others slip tube socks onto seat-belt buckles, or daub Armor-All on dashboards.

But Hui Zhang, a UC Berkeley researcher who has made the car/human interface her professional specialty, reckons the best defense against summer sun is to keep a cool head while behind the wheel.

"Shifting your air conditioner vent so it blows onto your head is not only beneficial to remove heat from the car, but it cools the brain," said Zhang, who recently won a prize from the Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers for modeling the calculus behind your scorching steering wheel.

In the first step toward engineering a temperature system to make people more comfortable in cars, Zhang and her team tested how drivers felt inside a piping hot wind tunnel. Zhang said the effect was similar to how you might feel getting into your car after it's been baking in the parking lot all day. But even as car companies race to apply Zhang's model to develop new gadgets, falling back on the tried and true methods may be your best bet to beat the heat this summer.

"Does parking your car under a tree help?" asked Doug Brauner, who, as The Car Czar, writes a weekly automotive column for The Bee. "You bet it does. Anything you can do to keep the sun from baking it and keep it venting out that hot air will help."

Cars get hot when solar rays penetrate the window glass, which insulates the sun's long-wave radiation. Therefore, reducing the overall solar load on your car is the single best way to keep temperatures down.

On a recent afternoon at Brauner's Automasters shop on El Camino Avenue, Brauner was pointing a gray plastic thermometer gun at an old Honda Prelude. At 2 p.m., the temperature outside was 98 degrees, but the car's dashboard was 182 degrees.

"You could cook on that!" Brauner said. "The bigger the car, the more glass there is, the hotter it is. The heat builds up through the glass so if you reflect it away with an old-school window shade, it works great."

Window tinting applies that same notion, by blocking out the sun's rays and cutting down on as much as 60 percent of the solar heat trapped inside the car. Tints come in several different grades, and some window films are made with embedded metal chips meant to reflect more solar heat and cut down on sun damage to upholstery.

In California, window tinters can only work on a car's backside, however, since state law forbids the procedure being done on the windshield, driver and passenger side windows. But business at Rocky Mountain Window Tint is so hot this July it can take weeks to get an appointment.

"Another good option for people with very sensitive skin is to apply a clear film to the front door windows, which blocks out 99 percent of UVA and UVB rays," said Clyde Kurokawa, manager at Rocky Mountain Window Tint.

But prices still haven't come down enough to tempt Jeannie Hansen, a mother of two in Land Park, who worries about how to protect her children.

"Sometimes I have to sit outside the car for 10 minutes before we can load up and go home," said Hansen, who travels with cool towels to wipe down her children's car seats.

For Sacramentans who spare no expense, GM and Mercedes dealers now sell cars with seats that deliver air conditioning through tiny pores in the fabric. Buying a Lincoln Navigator, Cadillac Escalade or a Mercedes sedan with pore-delivered air can run as much as $1,600 extra, depending on make and model.

Sharper Image, too, sells energy-efficient personal minifans and air ionizers for those intrigued by the latest gadgets. All of which is fine, but that still doesn't solve Steve Seeboth's basic problem.

"If I got shade, I park there, but if there's shade there's always birds up ahead," said Elverta resident Seeboth, who was getting his car washed at Harv's Carwash.

Harv's, like many local carwashes, is doing a big business in wax jobs this summer. Protecting the car's outside with a wax or sealant that adheres to the car is one more way to protect cars from sun damage.

"You wouldn't just lay out in the sun with no lotion, so your car shouldn't be out there with no protectant, either," said Sam Furno, Harv's president. "I mean, Californians love their cars."

Top Tips for cooling your car

1. The Shaded Parking Spot. We know, it's obvious, but it's the most effective way to cut down on the solar load hitting your car. Cost: free.

2. The Barely Open Window. Contrary to common folk tales, leaving your window or sunroof open a crack will not let hot air in, but will allow the heat waves trapped inside your vehicle to escape. Cost: free.

3. The Windowshade. Another great remedy for reducing UV penetration into the car, and preventing upholstery fading. (If you can, place one in the back, too.) Cost: anywhere from $6 for a piece of folded reflective cardboard, to $50 for a high-end sunshade with an automatic retractor.

4. The Steering Wheel Cover. Especially for older model cars with plastic and metal steering wheels, the removable steering wheel cover can save your hands without sacrificing (too much) style. Installing one is much like putting a glove on your steering wheel. Cost: $10-$15.

5. The Tube Sock or the Tennis Wrist Band. Can be useful to protect children from being seared by hot seat-belt buckles. Cost: free if you can swipe either from your spouse's sock drawer, or from your gym gear. Otherwise, $5-$10.

6. The Wax Job. Getting your car waxed, whether using a natural wax or a polymer, can save the paint from sun damage and can avoid getting bird material stuck to your roof, which could be a problem after following tip No. 1 (see above). Cost: $25-$45, will last for 2-3 months.

7. The Window Tint. Pimps your ride at the same time as it keeps the car cool and protects you from UVA and UVB rays. Cost: Two-door vehicles run from $145-$290, depending on the quality; Four-doors range from $165-$330.

8. The Air-Con Seat. Local Saab, GM and Mercedes dealers offer seats equipped with miniature internal fans that deliver air conditioning or suck hot air through pores in the seats, making summer driving nearly as pleasant as getting a back massage. Cost: $1,200-$1,600.

Five cooling strategies

Here are five strategies for hot cars, according to Edward Arens, an architecture and energy expert at UC Berkeley's Center for the Built Environment. He overheated several electrical mannequins to reach these conclusions:

* Live and work in an area with many trees.

* Park your car under one of them, aiming it so the windshield faces north, which puts the driver's seat on the opposite side of the sun's southern-tilted trajectory.

* If you have one, open your sunroof to allow the hot air trapped inside the vehicle to rise.

* On take-off, open all the windows and turn on the air conditioning. Start driving, to get wind circulating through the car as quickly as possible. Keeping the air blowing over the car's outer surfaces will also carry away stored heat.

* After one minute, close the car windows to trap the cold air inside. The air conditioner has more power when the motor and the compressor belt are moving faster, but it may take up to 30 minutes to reach complete comfort."

I had eclipse tint my old car, but it faded in just over a year. With my WRX, I got it done at Tint Co. in Orangevale. Its been over a year and the tint still looks great. I think it was about $240 for all 5 windows, but I dont remember I didnt pay for it

So... any last minute recommendation for glass install places. I'm gonna do this this week. So far the front runners are GlassDoctor and Safelite.

I'll probably call eclipse after to get the side windows as close to the rear as possible.

tint shop recommended to me by Killian Maynard.

Tint Works - (916) 863-1550

I am hopefully going to get my car done there this week. Based on the conversation I just had with one of the guys there, they're really cool.

go to eclipe for everything...
used to have a bunch of freinds (aka ol' GFX crew) who used them & everyone's cars looked perfect...
no seams or hoaky short cuts on the edges...always clean & smooth.

i've never gotten tintwork done...it's always been installed already, but i'm thinking of taking the wife's car there cuz she's wanted hers done for years...(but the money always ends up in my car....funny how that happens)
