How do you add an Avatar to your profile?

There's a number of threads on this subject, but the simple answer is that avatars are not enabled by default. The admins have a few different ways of establishing contributing users, which are the VIP members you see with avatars. This can include reviewing products to add to the review database, or various other tasks or contests that will pop up form time to time (first 5 people to do * will get an avatar, etc)
