DirecTV and DVR?

Ok i wanna get the free after mail in rebate tivo DVR from DTV, i was wondering for those who got it and installed it on their own, what was the process? I installed my own DTV setup in my house before and that was pretty easy, but i hear the tivo unit uses another satellite line. any thoughts on how installation went would be much appreciated :tia:

ps - this is the unit they use (i just dont want to pay the 50$ to install and $15 to ship it out THEN wait to setup an appointment since im always busy :p )

If you installed one, you should be able to install the other. It does require a second signal so you will have to run another line from the dish to the DVR, but aiming the dish is no different with the dual LNB than it is with the single...

there was a promotion going on right now for a free DVR.

yea it was just a pain to point it since we didnt have the tool that finds the signal for us...we already have a dual LNB and 2 lines running from it

yes and its still going on...i called them up on the phone and they wanted to ship it for 15$ and install for 50$ but while im doing it online, its free shipping

You can get a multiswitch that will allow you to split the signal from the dish. At my old house I had a single LNB dish, a Dual LNB dish and a multiswitch that was running the DVR and 2 other tuners. If you are just going to run the DVR and a second tuner this may be the way to go.

I picked up the multiswitch at Best Buy...

well if i order it from dtv's site, its $148, then a $100 MIR, 48$ to install the junk...depends if i really wanna get on the roof again, plus its hard for me to find time :(

<---- Got the good sh1t.

Triple LNB Oval Dish
(1) Spaun 5X8 Multiswitch (I saw a bunch of these at Steve Wozniaks house and thought it must be good)

(1) Terk indoor tertiary UHF antenna (for local OTA HD channels) diplexed via the multiswitch
(1) 3 channel stereo RF modulator for security camera coupled to antenna input on multiswitch

(2) DirecTivos (SAT-T60)
(1) HD DirecTivo (HR250-10)

6 Tuners total for teh win!

You don't need anything fancy to aim a dish. Just use a tuner and a TV. Turn the volume up and start sweeping the general area of the sky the satelites are in.

i know, ive done that...i think ill just let them do it..turns out im not going to pay for teh install anyways since my parents will just get it :p
