SubeTek, I was wondering if you have worked on SVXs? If so, what is your opinion on them mechanically and on their performance?
The reason I ask is because I am thinking about getting one for my first car. My dad owns a 94 legacy turbo touring wagon and it is fun to drive in places like Left Hand Canyon and Goldhill.

My budget is below 7500 dollars and i have seen them for cheaper than that. It would also be nice to have something to show up those cocky guys with thier Civics that think they are so fast. Just wondering how the SVX is, considering it is the any subaru model I know using the 3.3L.

The SVX is a reliable car, but not all that fast because of it's 4400 pound curb weight. If you want something you could build up i'd suggest an older impreza-all the WRX drivetrains swap right in and there's lots of tuning parts/dressup items for them. The SVX won't really be a performance car. It was marketed as a sports/touring car. Let me know if there's any other questions you have.

I have thought of that before and looked at websites like www.boxer4racing.com , but i didn't know that the WRX drivetrain would just swap in. I was thinking about a '93 cheap Impreza and converting it to a clone older WRX. How much is to purchase the WRX drivetrain parts? Can some of the older parts still be used? I was looking while i was writing this and i saw a 98 Impreza RS with 89000miles and its $7600 but it is automatic.

I'd try to stay away from converting auto to manual unless you get a whole drivetrain/wiring harness. Try checking some of the importers for pricing-of course there are other ways to go, but every path is a bit of work.
