So they didn't even get to a real appeal? I guess since if this had happened earlier in the race it would've been drive through and that typically not something one can appeal.

Having re-watched it a few times you have to say that even though Lewis gave up the position, he definately carried some momentum into the next straight and then passed Kimi on the very next corner. The rules say he had to give up all of the advantage gained, so in effect he deserved the penalty.

He definately should have waited a few corners before attacking again.

This is all part of the learning process for Lewis, he will come back stronger this weekend no doubt.
