That's great, but that seems like a much higher-end DSLR than I am currently looking at. I'd like to keep the cost with a basic lens around the $1,200 mark or less. This seems to fall into the "mid-range" category. Am I missing any possibilities within that price range? TIA!

Costco currently has a deal on the T1i, 2GB SD card, 18-55mm IS Lens and Canon Pixma MP980 printer for $800 after rebate. You could probably sell the printer for $200+ which gives you the camera and lens for $600 or less. Unforunately, you have to pay tax on the original price of $1100.

That's a really good deal, but I'm looking for something that shoots at a higher FPS than the T1i.

New baby, motorsports and skateboarding along with your basic hobbyist stuff and any future vacations. The motorsports and skateboarding dictates a high fps and with the new baby en route, I figure it would be nice to have HD video as well.

For casual motorsports and skateboarding photography, you don't really need that high FPS. I'd worry more about focus speed/accuracy of the lens, and image stabilization.

Nice glass on an ok camera is better than ok glass on an awesome camera.

Image Stabilization will also be essential for your handheld videos.

I'd go with either the d90 + 18-200 VR, or the T1i + 24-105L IS. Either way you should be happy.

Thanks for the recommendation. I've been perusing the various "kits" they have on Amazon. Is it usually better to buy the camera in a kit or would I be better off buying the body and lens individually?

I've heard this is still around, if you use the livesearch rebate through bing/paypal/ebay, it's cheaper to buy it separately.

That way you get 5-20% back on both items instead of just 1 package.

looks like the T1i has better specs than the D90. I was gonna upgrade to a D90 too, but since i dont have lenses, i'm gonna have to take a look at the T1i.
