Different kinda wedding shoot..
Firstly.. I hate shooting weddings.. :)
So.. Shot a wedding in rural Ontario Canada last week.. (prepare for mini photo-bomb) Bride and groom didn't want many traditional shots.. So mostly candids with a couple shooting galleries.. One is an artist - the other a musician so they wanted something "artsy" in addition to the usuals.. I sold them on a surreal themed shoot on the lake at night (Lake Huron). Here's a somewhat random handful. I just had a small backpack with a limited selection of gear.. Couple strobes - small assortment of reflectors and soft boxes.. None of the daylight shots are with available light only. Any and all feedback appreciated.. Thanks! This one reminds me of my buddy simon's work http://www.simonrevill.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Chatsworth-House-Wedding-Photographer-Derbyshire-DSC_4625.jpg http://www.simonrevill.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Chatsworth-Wedding-PhotographerDSC_6783.jpg http://www.simonrevill.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Chatsworth-Wedding-PhotographerDSC_6764.jpg http://www.simonrevill.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Foxhills-Ottershaw-Surrey-Wedding-Photographer-23.jpg http://www.simonrevill.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Foxhills-Ottershaw-Surrey-Wedding-Photographer-22.jpg |
I almost shot the night scenes exactly like those.. Well a few.. Pretty neat stuff..
I was doing some testing with dramatic focused light on the subject.. In the end I figured a more natural-ish lighting everywhere was a better idea (although the shadow purposefully falls in the wrong direction in that last shot.).. The couple are more naturists - so I sorta stuck with naturalish lighting and lower contrast throughout most of the day. As for the crooked horizon.. One of them I was using it in the composition.. The others I was being lazy.. Pretty much all of the shots with a strong horizon are noticeably a couple degrees off.. Not much excuse.. Had a decent sized flash bracket for good reference with hands.. I just wasn't paying attention to my horizon.. I'm gunna stick a bubble level to my forehead next time. My biggest problem was I started channeling 1996 and purposefully shooting at odd angles (rotations of the camera).. Partly because I was using a fixed lens for a good amount of the shooting and I was space limited so I unconsciously started tipping the camera to fit everything.. The main dress shot's two right corners are completely shopped in right up to the bride. |
