you have to remember that when using AP, you are slowing down the shot. so depending on ISO settings which i always use a slow one like 100 or even 50, you have to use a tripod especially on long lenses. i use tripod pretty much all the time in landscape or people photography.

Wow, I would love to get in on this. Not because I am a good photographer but because I am a crap photographer and I want to learn from people who are good. I don't want to make fun of anyone else's camera or anything.
BTW - Rescuer - AWESOME pics!
Here's a pic I took last weekend. Yeah, it's not great but it was dark inside and I didn't have a tri-pod or anything. I was trying to catch the cue ball in the air when my buddy was chipping it.
And I take pics every time I am out at a track working.
I know I posted this pic before, but I freaking love this car:

Carlos, and there are plenty of places. And plus, with the 300 I was doing absolutely fine. I know all the great spots at Laguna.
Or you can check out Carlos' pics, his website is www.extpictures.com
He uses a 70-200mm F/2.8L IS

I use the f/4L IS version of that lens. I wanted the f/2.8 but found I could get the other plus my 17-40 f/4L which has become my fav to play with lately. Now I want the 16-35 f/2.8 but again.. Gimme the cash! haha...

Thanks! I know I have tons to learn, but it really started getting fun when I found I preferred manual mode and aperture priority over the auto modes... Lovin the L glass as well.. When I see pics on my 42" I think to myself... So that's where that money went!

It's a freakin light hog, I find myself having to darken pics sometimes because of how much light it lets in...wonderful lens.
As far as auto mod, I only use it to determine what the camera thinks should be the aperture and the exposure time, I then set it to manual and start playing with the settings.
