With appropriate parts... It was time for round 2!

Everything fit.

The rear control arms were a pain. But man, are they sexy.

Max-ish height in the front was 2.5" above stock.

Lowest is about 0.5" under stock. Not bad.

The next day, I got it aligned.

And got the fenders rolled.

Shout out to RMS Rolling and Coating for doing the *****in' job I expected. (They also did the initial roll on my old car.)

With the suspension and fenders good, I can finally put the big wheels on!

Plenty of space in the front.

A little tight in the rear.

The tires do not rub.

So, because #racecarthings, my roommate and I have been amassing a lot of unwanted/broken/damaged car parts. Towards the end of last year, my roommate bent two wheels on track. To me, a bent wheel sounds like an awesome coffee table.

Now, a wheel coffee table/furniture had been in the works for a while already. It seemed like a good idea for being able to store wheels in plain sight. So I already had a plan to use a harbor freight shop stool as the stand for the wheel.

Here's the initial go...

Stool, took the seat off, wheel, a plastic topper, and a set of sweet Subaru All Weather Floor Mat coasters.

But it wasn't very stable.

Took the seat plate off the stool and drilled some holes.

Dug up some wheel studs we had laying around.

Dug a little deeper and found some ****ty lug nuts laying around.

WAHLAH!

Now the wheel is bolted to the stool.

I also found a use for the old cushion. It can be used to convert the jack into a temporary seat!

Since I was in the DIY mood, I decided to tackle the turbo heatshield.

Trimmed that up so that it would fit over my bellmouth down pipe and make the turbo blanket a little more stealthy.

Before:

After:

That one came out pretty good. It was also surprisingly easy to trim the shield with a small rotary tool. I was expecting the process to be a lot more tedious.

Got to shake down the car over the weekend with the new suspension and wheels and tires.

Saturday was interesting. I had Richard driving the car with me. Together, we hit a lot of cones.

The front bumper took a beating. On one of my runs, I hit some cones so hard the tow hook cover came out. I had to go out on course to retrieve it. Richard hit some cones so hard that one of the fog light bezels started to come out.

When I got home I found this...

The blue color freaked me out. As it turned out. The washer bottle was also broken and leaking washer fluid.

Not to be deterred... I went back out. But I got a different codriver this time, Max. Nothing against Richard. Both Richard and Max wanted to drive the car. With how their schedules were, Max wasn't available on Saturday and Richard wasn't available on Sunday. It kinda worked out.

With Max and I, our runs were much cleaner. This was pretty much the same course from the day before but run backwards.

At one point in the day, Max was feeling artsy and took a picture.

Overall the car is a blast to drive. It was all over the place. I finally checked the date on the tires and found that they are from 2013. With some fresh rubber, this thing is going to really stick.

Kinda fell into a BBK...

Tried it out on the table of course.

Got a deal on a pair of Wilwood Forged Superlite calipers that came with brackets to fit STi rotors. I then snagged a pair of used DBA 4000 XS rotors.

The calipers use the same pad shape that my roommate's AP kit uses. He had a set of XP-10s that he didn't like. But they wouldn't fit in my Wilwood calipers. To try to figure out if it was a problem with the pads or with my calipers, I ordered a set of BP-20 pads from Wilwood. I got them the same day that my roommate received a set of Winmax W6 pads. I suddenly had a plethora of pads...

The Winmax and Wilwood pads fit. I started to compare them to the Carbotech pads.

Wilwood:

Winmax:

Carbotech:

For whatever reason, the Carbotechs have compound all the way to the edge of the plate while the others don't. I have reason to believe that these are the right pads for my calipers. But they need some help getting in. Nothing the bench grinder can't solve.

Took some final pictures of the stock brakes.

With 18"

And with 17"

BBK with 18"

BBK with 17"

I think the 17" look so much better than the 18".

And yes, I do have two sets of the same wheels in different sizes. That's just how that cookie crumbled.

With new brakes, it was time to go out and test them.

AutoX it was!

I got 1st place!

I was the only one in my class.

The car was a mess. It would not stop at all. I'll be taking it apart today to try to figure out what the problem is.

Dug into the brakes yesterday.

They were leaking. (That might do it.)

Added more teflon to the stupid NPT fittings. They seem to hold now. The brake pedal is super spongy though. I bled the crap out of the brakes to no avail. Maybe I need to bleed the rears. I'll deal with that at a later date when I have the rear wheels off the car.

Also, in case anyone is in the market for a bleeder bottle. My roommate has a cable one that I've used in the past. I recently got a magnetic one. Magnet for the win.

Fair warning, it has a Wu Tang magnet on it. Don't stick it somewhere where you care about the paint/finish.

Last week I was able to finish up a couple projects.

I painted the remaining 2 wheels on the 17x9 DPTs. They are all green now. I think they came out pretty good. I'll get some tires on them soon.

I also got the final version of the radiator shroud that a friend was making for me.

If you recall, I installed a larger radiator. The Cobb shroud didn't quite cover it.

A friend of mine said he could make a bigger piece that would cover the whole radiator. Prototype came out pretty good. But one of the holes missed.

Made some adjustments and anodized it black. It's looking damn good.

He made a few of them. I'm looking to sell the additional shrouds, the Cobb shroud and the prototype if anyone is interested.

Over the weekend, I was back at the track.

I think I was able to blend in with the BRZs.

I signed up for the time attack group. First time running a transponder.

Saw a pretty cool car that had billionaire doors.

They were also doing a drift event on the skid pad. Saw some sketchy things...

At the end, I was on the podium.

Who cares that there were only 3 people in my class.

And finally, the transponder times from the weekend.

Overall, not a bad weekend. Lot of work to still do on the car.
