Also... Stuff I've been doing with the car...
I started AutoX in 2012. Took 2nd place in Novice 2012 Slush Series. (BC Coilovers, 18x8 wheels, Toyo T1R Tires. (It was ****ty)) Took 1st place in G-Stock 2013 Championship Series and Slush Series. (Koni shocks stock springs, stock wheels, Direzza ZII tires. (It was pretty good)) Took 3rd place in T2 2014 Championship Series. New rules made 4 digit numbers illegal. I had to pick something with 3 digits. (Pretty much as describe in the OP.) Went to Thunderhill in December 2014. I want to get on track again. |

Track day! Spent that weekend at Thunderhill Raceway Park.
Here's a rough cut of my first session. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7feqsuXuZ8"]NCRC Thunderhill 3-mile Bypass 8/8/15 - YouTube[/ame] M3 driver posted up looking for video. I happened to encounter him. This was during the 3rd session on Saturday. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JvuYpRpGj8"]Alex M3 - YouTube[/ame] More videos coming. Just got to put them together. I did 3-mile Bypass on Saturday and 3-mile Cyclone on Sunday. Ran Solo Group (1-8 day experience, point-by on the straights only) on both days. Car ran great the whole weekend. Temps got really high late Sunday. I saw outside temp at 96* on my dash. Track started to get greasy, I started to feel some new vibrations... It was weird. Engine temp stayed pretty consistent as far as I could tell. Brakes were... OK. My braking zones were pretty long. But they didn't seem to fade to me. Tires were great. Dunlops are known to overheat and be ****ty on track. I thought the traction was really good and consistent throughout the weekend. Suspension was good. Didn't seem too soft. There are some bumpy sections on the track and the suspension coped with them really well. The car was very balanced, comfortable, and confident. No engine problems. No power steering problems. No transmission problems. Did burn/leak about half a quart of oil. I did a fresh change on Friday. But I wasn't really counting how much I put in and the dipstick was weird. Either way, I'm not worried about it. First day I ran 103 miles and burned 8.9 gallons for 11.6 MPG. Second day, I cleared 120 miles and burned 11.8 gallons for 10.2 MPG. Seriously not bad. I made it though the whole day on one tank. Meanwhile My friends needed more fuel at lunch. I spent $65.56 on gas for the whole weekend. But man... Pulling 3,100 pounds with 140whp sucks. Cornering was great, acceleration was poor. I was a Miata in Subaru clothing. |

I made it through all 6 sessions. Got some coolant spray/leak going on. Might be headgaskets. Chewed through the tires a bit more. I have 2 more days this following weekend. I hope they will last 2 more days. As I was leaving the track... Check Engine came back. P0420 as usual... Third time this month. The photographer at the event was super cool. He put a picture of me on his main page! Highlight of the weekend. Here's the Imgur album with more pictures. Exclusive Track Days @ Thunderhill 5-mile - Album on Imgur I have timing and videos coming. A week later I was at Buttonwillow again
It was very hot this time around. Even the nearby gas station was feeling the heat. Found out that one of my valve stems broke as I finished the first day on a flat tire. Good thing I had an extra set of wheels. Super long day, super hot, a car caught fire, had to do an emergency wheel change. I just wanted to relax. Stanley Cup final was on. Even that was a nope... |

Day two started with fixing the valve stem.
I hate changing wheels. Ran the first session the back up wheels. They suck for track use. Got the good stuff back on and all was well. The rest of the day was pretty uneventful. Wasn't as hot as the day before. There are hella pictures. They are uploading, I'll have an Imgur link in a bit. Pictures are up, they are here: http://imgur.com/a/w5VuR |

Discovered that my tire rack is too small...
Nah, just working on the brakes and changing wheels on my buddy's '02 WRX wagon. Then went out for some AutoX. No shots of me driving my car. But there are some shots of me riding in my buddy's aforementioned bugeye. And my neighbor's CLK AMG Black Series Holy **** was that CLK awesome. |
AutoX videos are coming.
|
Ok... I need to do some updates. I'm sure no one has noticed that my profile information has changed...
Let's see... Where were we here? The last 2 months have been a blur of me and this thread is like 5 months behind... |
I'm still working on the videos from 6/4 and 6/5 at buttonwillow.
There were AutoX events on 6/25, 7/24, and 8/7. I have videos for June and August. July has paintball videos. Did I really choose paintball over AutoX? By the way, don't get into paintball. It's ****ing expensive. I was at the track again on July 9th and 10th. And then Disaster struck. |

Here we go...
Back at the track! Thunderhill! (again) This time we were a trio! The Subaru RPF1 Njenius Grafix Racing Team! I got to the end of another set of tires. For this weekend, I did 2 laps on the old tires. During their last moments, they didn't have a lot of grip. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvDg-MsNWAY[/ame] When they came off they looked like this: This set achieved the following: 15 AutoX events, 68 runs 8 track days, 39 sessions 69 laps Thill 3 mile 50 laps Thill 2 mile 39 laps Thill 5 mile 109 laps Bw 13cw ~13666 total miles It's ok, I came prepared for this. Otherwise, the rest of the weekend went pretty good. A BMW did some BMW things... Oh, and I chewed threw my brakes. These were the Carbotech XP8. They lasted basically 5 track days. |

Here are the times from Saturday
First session, the one where I spun on the old tires. Third session. I missed the second session changing tires. Fourth Session. Fifth Session. Overall, not bad, getting a hang for the new tires. The ZIISS is a bit different than the ZII. Sunday's times were a little more consistent. First session. Second session. Third session. Fourth session. Fifth session I had to skip because the brakes were gone. |
I'll put the videos here eventually.
|
I was pissed that I had to buy brakes AGAIN.
Being cheap I bought a set of XP12s for the front. The rear XP8s still had quite a bit of compound on them. I did one AutoX event with this (8/7) and the bias was terrible. It worked out for AutoX but it probably wouldn't fly on track. I ended up flat spotting the front tires a bit. That was interesting. I'll put a video here if I ever get around to it. |

And then came August 24th. The day that sucked.
The day where I was on my way to work, on the freeway, and the car in front of me came to a stop. So, naturally, I came to a stop. The five cars behind me didn't. I felt three hits. They guy in front of me felt two. Insurance determined that I was not at fault which is good. But the car was a total loss. Good thing I had most of my stock parts... :D Got a couple of friends and 4.5 hours later, we got almost everything off the car! :D We got pretty much everything except the suspension and the mirror. I miss that mirror. We also left the SPT battery tie down (it was corroded anyway), the APR Radiator shroud (It was more broken than it was when I got it), and the subwoofer/amp wiring. The estimated cost of repairs was $7350.63. The settlement... $8,567.98 Got to bomb around in a classic until I found Teh Rice Wagon v2.0... She's a thirsy ***** and she will only drink top shelf. |
