now no more shaking under heavy braking!!!
I'm on the way to pick it up now. I think it will be way different compared to stock. I've read a bunch of reviews and they say that the lines alone will make a difference because they dont flex like the rubber ones do.

johndabrit 10-29-2009 08:10 PM

so i just got the car back from EQ and the brakes feel perfect. literally like night and day. Car has some good bite and feels much safer overall.

I'm glad you're enjoying the brakes John! The stoptech setup is really nice all around and this is by far one of my favorite pads to use. Bedding in your pads really brought me back to the days of my bugeye and the countless brake setups I had on that thing :D

Haha I was just kiddin anyways I know you searched high and low for that exhaust ;)

johndabrit 12-06-2010 02:12 PM

yeah .. just so happened that crfsti was doing a part out and i was in the right place at the right time. I wouldnt have been able to get it but he let me make two or three payments to him. It gets rid of a lot of the droning from the exhaust and still sounds great when you open it up. I wish i could get it even quieter but it seems like you have to go less than 3" to do that and i cant do that.
-J

johndabrit 12-06-2010 02:49 PM

im thinking about lining the entire trunk with dynamat type material to get rid of a lot more droning. coming from the exhaust. I have no spare tire or anything back there and it made the exhaust much more present in the cockpit. Stuff is really expensive though.

Yea my whole trunk is shaved and I have an EWG and catless 3'' all the way haha. It gets loud sometimes but I don't mind.

I wouldnt mind, but I dont wanna drone out the babies ears. I also like to take road trips with my wife and would like to actually hear her over the car. I m selling my amp and subs so i also want the stereo to overpower the exhaust without having to turn it up really loud. Your car is sick though

well if i can offer any advice let me know. I've been through it all.. Motor, trans, various turbos and supporting mods, interior, exterior, A/V... bring it on!

snyda 07-14-2011 02:19 PM

Is the sti cluster plug and play? No mods?? And what year cluster should i use??

johndabrit 07-14-2011 02:22 PM

if at all possible you should get an 04 USDM STi cluster as it is more plug and play. 05 It is plug n play after you shave down the tabs allowing fitment of the WRX wire harness plugs and possible clip a wire or two. I have one pin bent over to one side which was done by previous owner of the cluster. I believe that one was bent to get rid of the buzzing noise which some of them have. All gauges work. Shift light works. Rev limit beep works. Dimmer works.. and the best part, the start up sweep works. I love my gauges.

snyda 07-14-2011 02:25 PM

I want one soo bad i hate the factory guage cluster on the wrx haha!

johndabrit 07-14-2011 03:21 PM

you've gotta start somewhere. Keep your eyes on the threads.. gauge clusters appear a few times a year.

1. I'm not fully tuned yet! Stay tuned cause my car is in the shop for some work, an aps cai, and some dw1300 injectors.
2. Once tuned on 91 I then may get an e85 tune.
3. I am already in the range of power I should have even tuned conservatively as I am. How much power did you expect to see with my setup? I don't have external wastegate, I don't have STi heads and I'm on 91. I'm not tuned aggressively. Show me a similar setup with a lotmore power on either eds or gst dyno..

KYUKCA 10-31-2011 08:40 PM

expected around 340 i guess. didnt mean to be insulting. we'll see what mine makes and ill post it. guessin it wont be that good... autolab here has a dyno that reads low as **** like gst. dont remeber eds. ill be on 93 as well. sorry man

All good. I just think your numbers are way off. There is no way I'm getting 340 without e85, meth or at least external wastegate and 93 fuel. 91 is all we have and it's crap 91 at that. I'm interested what your mod list is and what you tune to as far as whp wtq and driveability.

dTek 10-31-2011 10:26 PM

low 300's on an 18G is about right. for 340 youd need to be pushing it a lot and need like every bolt on available. Better a 20G for easier power to hit 330-350whp. Unless you're on a COBB dyno that gets 320hp with just CAI and turbo back lolz.

Looks good Jon! Are the 750's going to hold up to E85? I thought 1k's were needed for that. dooooeeeeetttttt lol

if all your mods are the usual suspects youll probably do about 275-285hp and a bit more than that tq.. just my opinion. avcs will help you also. my heads dont have it :( id like to see your build and pics. Its good to see legit swaps. If full swap = 6 sp then you dont have the 300hpish threshold that the 5sp guys do.. hopefully you have a good tuner where you are.

unless you plan on getting a 6 speed you really shouldnt plan on going much above 300awhp. The 5sp is a split case design and is susceptible to torsion under load.

johndabrit 11-05-2011 12:15 PM

DW 1300's are in. The idle is nice and smooth @ 900 RPM. Same as on my 750's This is great news. On track to pick up the car monday night.

side note 750's are for sale only 200 bucks!!(half price from new)

Iwrxshiiet 12-05-2011 08:37 PM

Sorry to revive an old thread and threadjack But I had a question:

I couldn't help but notice that the torque curve slowly drops after boost is created. Why is this happening? The first thing that comes to mind for me is that maybe the subaru heads can't sustain the boost pressure or maybe there isn't enough lift for the cams at that RPM?

Turbo too small too?

johndabrit 12-08-2011 10:34 AM
Sorry to revive an old thread and threadjack But I had a question:

my heads are CNC'd to STi spec so they are the same size but do not have AVCS.

I'll redirect your questions about the curve to my tuner, but I'll also be posting the tune we did last night so you can see the difference/improvement. I'm not sure what you mean by turbo too small. I wanted the car to be a DD and around the 300awhp range with the most usable power as possible. All while tuned with motor longevity in mind. When replacing my turbo the 18G-XT seemed like the right way to go to get into that range while keeping the 5sp.

Iwrxshiiet 12-11-2011 09:10 PM

from what I have gathered when looking at Turbos etc etc. is that Turbos as their Size becomes to small, they either restrict Exhaust at Higher rpms, thus reducing torque, or power up top, or They produce too much heat instead of compressing the air, therefore losing their efficiency causing similar results. but I guess headflow would matter equally as much.

johndabrit 12-12-2011 09:50 AM

i just got my retune. Ill post it when Ed sends me the screen shot.

I know I can go to 07 With a face lift kit but I don't think anyone has ever tried to retrofit the new parts to the bugeye.

I'm guessing I will need the following. Feel free to add any items.

Hood
Bumper
Fenders
Subframe
Radiator supports
Light housing brackets
Headlights
Grille

Not sure about wiring yet but will probably just run hid to avoid wiring complications.

I did a minor cut off mod to my reflectors similar to what you might do when retrofitting projectors. I had to rebake them to clean the inside. I took the opportunity to make the upward reflection as reduced as I could.

Before I do that I'll just do jdm. I'm not personally skilled enough to do retrofit myself
