ill sell my exhaust. $200 + your stock setup. i also have kartboy long hangers.
it is 2.25" in the midpipe area and then where that axleback flange would be i have a taper to a 2" pipe which follows to the muffler. this is essentially the same size as what is on the stock wrx. the theory behind it is when the exhaust gasses get back far from the engine they cool down, which means they also slow down. the key to performance is exhaust speed. so that 2" restriction back there forces the exhaust gasses to speed up because they have less volume to fill.
the piping is mild steel. i live in sacramento, the car doesnt see salted roads or snow or anything. this exhaust setup has only seen like 2 rains i think? i got it...i cant remember when but it was within 6 months EASILY.
it is a single tip, welll heres a picture. no sense in explaining it.

i also have for sale a set of subs/box/amp including a wiring kit for it. those can be seen here:

im actually looking for 3" catless piping or im just gonna weld one if i cant find it. we have a sti block on the car and were going to swap the head in a month or so.
and actually the key to performance and power is airflow. not just exhaust flow. the problem with your theory is that going from 2.25 to 2" causes restriction in the exhaust airflow. if the car cant push out all the exhaust gases then the intake cant take in more air. and with that your not maximizing potential power. heat will not affect how fast air travels but it affects how dense it is. i have heard of people going from smaller to larger piping but never until now larger to smaller.
