Moving to Philly

Hello, I have a weird question. I am moving from NY (Brewster) to Philadelphia (Mt. Airy east) and a few people are telling me my car will be "a target" for theft, keying or break ins in the city, especially since it is blue (2002 wagon). My reaction is, oh come on, this is not a Corvette or something and most car thefts are for parts of super popular cars - right? I grew up in Detroit which leads the nation in insurance rates (apparently Philly is #2) and I wouldn't think that owning a WRX in Detroit would be a problem. I think Philly is a great city. Sure, like all cities it has some crime, but the new neighborhood is full of nice people and I see all kinds of more expensive cars than mine parked on the street.

P.S. Some of the people trying to get me all worried about this live in Queens and my car was keyed THERE once! A nice "middle class" NYC neighborhood where little houses sell for $600,000!

Thanks Q. I did notice a few cars with clubs on the steering wheel, so maybe I will get one, but I think you are right. People get all crazy and paranoid and generalize things way too much! I suppose if I were to keep my Red Wings bumper sticker that could be a BIGGER problem, but another Flyers - Wings Cup final seems a distant dream this year (on the Wings side of things!)

Yeah.. I would lose the Red Wings sticker. :-)

Welcome to the area. I don't think you will have any problems. Like Q-Scoob said.. just follow basic rules of not leaving things in site on the seats, lock it, etc and you should be fine.

Thanks Rock Strongo! So I guess I shouldn't wear my Wings Jersey if I see them play the Flyers too? :-) I did the same at a Rangers game this year, and everyone was cool (Wings lost). If you ask me the Flyers and Tampa Bay will be THE series of the whole playoffs this year. I think its great that the east is putting up too really great skilled teams while the west is the one with the trappy defensive boring teams this time around (Calgary and SJ). I would guess the Flyers will come on top, but whoever wins in the east should win the Cup. I'll always be a Wings fan, but you gotta love the Flyers - Roenik cracks me up. Thank God I am moving to a real hockey city.

Hey, any good Philadelphia area Subaru dealers you could recommend (or bad ones to avoid)?

Thanks Rally555Subaru!

The two (Subaru and Hockey) do somehow go together don't they? Thanks for the tip on Cherry Hill!

So, if a WRX were a hockey player, who would it be? Super fast, stops on a dime, tricky moves, can take a hit, three years in the league but loved by the press...

My first pick would be Pavel Datsyuk, but my Detroit thing is showing here and the kid did not really show up in the playoffs - basically he was harrassed and double teamed by cheap riced out Civics.
