Replace shifter panel light?
 

I have a 97 Legacy GT wagon with an automatic tranny. The light bulb which illuminates the gear setting (R, N, D, 1, 2, 3) has burned out. Any ideas on how to replace this, before I just go after it with a screwdriver?

Might be a good idea to look on Scoobymods. There's probably something on there related to replacing the bulbs with a different color, or whiteface gauge install, that'll go over the gauge cluster removal procedure.

This is the one down on the actual shifter, not up on the dashboard. I will check scoobymods, just in case.

Pull the ebrake on and put the shifter down into 1 or 2. open the center console, remove the two screws holding on the trim around the ebrake. The trim around the shifter will pop up. spin it 90 degrees so you can lift it over the shifter. Remove the 4 screws and you'll be able to get at the bulb in there.
I'm not sure what kind of bulb it is, but its pretty cheap at any parts store
