Auto 2001 Legacy GT purchase
guys,
REAL close to buying one for the wife. You guys have any troubles I should know of? The current owner had the head gasket replaced off a recall and the current set of tires are 'cupped' causing some excessive road noise, but that's it. I found this site, but the author doesn't give details on the following comment: "Subaru automatics are a bit slow, and unpredictable..." http://www.geocities.com/dmomrow/legacy I have no problem with them being slow, but am curious if there is any more definition to "unpredictable" among i-club knowledge. What are engine options for the '01 Legacy GT's? Do they all come with a 2.5? Also if anyone has any other comments/complaints/praise on these vehicles please pipe in! Thanks, Bill Wannabe Sub owner. |
its not really that it is unpredictable...its actually quite predictable. 2nd gear on the 4EAT just plain sucks. All the other gears are decent, but if you shift down to 2 there really isnt a lot of power there...
Really watch that head gasket, make sure they have been putting in the recall coolant conditioner addative since the replacement. Run it hot, check the coolant levels etc. Other than that, great cars, I am very happy with mine ;) Good luck! fibuz |
Thanks for the reply! Do you have a reference site on that recall, and possibly other recalls on that car?
Would like to know more about this "additive" and the reason for the recall (i.e. bad sealant, incorrect coolant). thanks in advance. I can feel it, I'm gonna have a subie... SOON!!!! |
I'd head over to nasioc.com for a larger legacy crowd...much more information there...
heres some stuff on the headgasket issues with the 2.5 DOHC: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=542924&highlight=wp99 as for other recalls, dont worry about other recalls...the headgasket stuff is the only thing you should be worried about it, the rest of the recalls are for dumb little things. |
