The ice cube LED taillights are cheesy and cheapen the look further.
The added chrome details on hatch and headlight surround detract from its rally car history and position it closer to a Ford Focus.
The Honda Civic esque wing is just plain dumpy.
The tacky looking aerodynamic black peice just below the bumper reminds me of a pontiac grand am or something. It's just a cheesy styling cue that adds nothing, and having it black rather than car color was another boo boo.

Jeez Subaru, the WRX is dead! The cult following that liked the edgy rally car has been left with a mixture of Ford, Suzuki and Pontiac. I'm the proud owner of a '05 wagon and will not be buying another WRX when I replace it.

50 lbs lighter because they chopped of it's Cajones!

i agree, what happened to the whole rally roots. Proud owner of an 02 and maybe someday the 06 sti limited. But seriously what happened?!?

I am liking the new design of the 08' WRX hatchback. I have held on to my 99'

OBS through 3 redesigns until I felt that Subaru went back to it's roots and

designed the car that should've been the successor to the GC8's. The bug-

eyes were just plain hideous on all levels, even though Subaru was aiming for

a more "family-oriented" design and tried to make the Impreza less "mean",

the 04-05 was just a quick redesign for the those hating the bug-eyes and the

06-07 should've been scrapped the minute that designer they hired from Alfa

Romeo (sp?) was canned. Finally a car that makes this GC8 fan proud to own

and not be embarrassed to drive.

IMHO this new monstrosity is the ugliest thing to wear the sooby badge since... well... ever, and that includes the embarassingly bulbous Tribeca.

Why, subaru, why? I'm sure the technological advances are impressive, and I'm willing to bet it handles really well, but could you PLEASE shoot your designer and hire someone with *****? As if copping the look of a Saab for 06-07 wasn't bad enough, this thing looks like a Chrysler Sebring had sex with a bathtub and the midwife delivering the child was Circuit City. Wow! An LCD screen! That makes up for everything!

Cool

There are a lot of mixed reviews about this one. My girl has the tribeca, and the new hatch (which looks a lot like a WAGON) looks a ton like a mini B9. the side view is exactly the same down the the stupid plastic trim on the passenger dash. The fact that they are cutting out sedans is the problem, not the issue of whether it is a wagon or hatch. I don't know, I will need to see it in person and drive it before I can make a definate decision to love or to hate. there's my 2 cents.

Just got my newest issue of Road & Track and HOLY CRAP! The touched up/mocked photos of the "STI" really make it look good compared to the WRX show car we've all seen. It is what the WRX should be. Still not feelin' the MOPAR grill, but the tail-lights look 100,000 times better. Its a pretty neat rendition of the car. It has the STI fender flares and plenty of mean-looking touches. (If it looks like this for real, it has my vote.)

Thumbs down

I have to agree with the Mazda-3 opinion,I have an 02 bug eye and wouldn't trade it for any other body stlye. The doors have frames!!, and the body panels have lost thier shape, it's now more plain than ever!I do like on the other hand the steering wheel controls and the navi, the only downside of the steering wheel i would assume would be aftermarket head unit and replacement of factory speakers which we all know the factory speakers rock haha!

Ouch! And I am going to have to try and sell them!!! They are making everything generic and boring ~ not sure it's a smart path. Let's face it, the Subaru will never be 'mainstream' and making them look like everything else, will only make them lost in a sea of sameness.

The 'niche' market has been good and faithful to Subaru ~ It's a brave manufacture that abandons their supporters... to become 'common'. I point to Saab and the GM failure as an example!

I think it definently has potential, wish it still had the fender flares but all in all i think its on par with anything from 02-07 and if it ends up handling better and maybe pulling subaru out of the wrc funk its been in, then its a step in the right direction. When subaru changed chassis before people hated the new look too, i think it will grow on people IF its a good improvement in all other areas like the 02 was compaired to the older gen impreza's. What they really need to do is come back out with a 2 door sti. The 2 door v6 sti's are still the best lookin subies ever imho

2 door hatch sti? say goodbye to my bugeye... otherwise ill be waiting till 2010 to see whats instore.

Thanks for the info, but I gotta say I hate it. Looks like i'll be buying a new EVO instead of a STI. Looks like a old geo metro. Subaru really missed the mark on this one. The sedan isn't too bad, but that hatchback is horrible.
