replace titanium shifter knob

Need help. I want to remove my titanium shifter **** and replace it with a leather covered stock ****.
Easy part was unscrewing the titanium ****. Then there is the large plastic adapter with threads that accept the large diameter titanium ****!
I need to get that adapter off so I can then screw on the much smaller diameter standard ****.
How do I get that plastic adapter off the shifter shaft?
Thanks

heheh I had that problem too.
Just get a pair of vice grips or some kind of pliers that can grab the adapter, then just turn it. the adapter is actually screwed on like every other shift ****. Note that the adapter has a odd shaped bottom end that holds up the boot.
I have a MOMO Aluminum/Leather **** and the boot hangs down because there is nothing to hold it up against the ****.
