Front bumper replacement
Front bumper replacement
I've got a 02 Silver WRX, and I got into a little accident with a '64 Chevrolet Bel Air that decided to run a stop sign.
I was a little surprised at how well the front bumper and lower lip on the front of the WRX held up. I was going probably 15 mph and there are 2 cracks (ones small) and some paint damage to the bumper.
Does anyone know if it's that hard of a job to replace the bumper yourself? I'm kind of a novice around cars, but I know how to turn a wrench. Anyone know of any good Subaru body shops around Charlotte, NC? My insurance company has recommended Dee Gainey's on Mint street, but i don't know anything about them.

Might want to have the dealership or bodyshop check out the supporting structure behind the bumper skin. That painted part of the body is there for cosmetic reasons only, not structural protection.

I agree, before proceeding further the bumper should be removed (it's pretty easy) and the support checked for damage. In addition to the metal support frame there is a styrofoam cushion behind the center of the bumper that may need replacement as well if the impact was in that area.
Replacing the bumper, and the support if needed, is a straightforward DIY job as long as you have some basic tools. If the bumper isn't damaged too badly the plastic can be repaired, or if you decide to replace it the part isn't that expensive. You do have to add the cost of painting however.
