What Type of Coolant For 05 WRX?
hey guys,
Does the subie take any special types of coolant? I need to refill, but my car didn't come with a owners manual. When I had my celica, I had to use the red coolant from toyota. Was wondering if subie had a specific coolant? If not, i'll just use my dad's prestone outside |
normal coolant should be sufficient. if anything use distilled water.
Top it off with distilled water. Water is what cools your engine, not the coolant. Coolant just alters the boiling and freezing points of water as well as prevents corrosion and lubricates. But since you already have coolant in there, may as well just increase the % of water in the cooling system... just add water.
What about if you are flushing the system and need to put some coolant in. I have read that we need the Subaru coolant because it's a Phosphate Type coolant. I could go to the dealer but it is a long drive what other coolants are there at the auto stores that is Phsphate Type coolants? I am trying to do this tomorrow at the same time change out my Thermostat with a Crucial Racing Thermostat, so any help would be great.

use the Peak Global Extended Life its 100% compatible subaru's because its phosphate and silicate free.

So far and by far away!!! The Red Line Water Wetter is proven fact as one of the best product in the market for high performance vehicles.
Check it out: Highly recommended!!! This is what it looks like!!! Do some research!!! http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/redline3.htm Jose |
a few weeks ago i paid a visit to the dealership to pickup some of the "genuine red subaru coolant" but they told me that they dont ship it to hawaii and the service side uses regular green coolant..... wierd... i guess if you wanna be safe you can add the "subaru coolant conditioner", its a little bottle that goes for around 3 bux or somthing...

anybody else used this stuff??? I just bought some but was a little hesitant to use it. It would be in addition to distilled water and on a side note I was wondering if a generic 10 minute radiator flush would be worth doing. Did the rest of the 60K service just need to flush the radiator. |
ijust rock the universal 50/50 mix that you can buy pretty much anywhere.
pm me if you need to pick up a gallon of green juice....can get it cheaper than the parts store...
haha I run like 50-75% tap water and the rest coolant. <------Don't follow by example <-----
oh i also recently learned from my recent swap that there is a coolant conditioner that Subaru recommends using whenever you flush your coolant. you can buy it at the dealer.
IIRC the best mix for non-freezing climates is 25-33% green, distilled H20, Subie conditioner, and 1 bottle Water Wetter (or equivalent).
its funny because the coolant conditioner is really block seal haha
Napa 50/50 is it.
