Ut2004

Oh yeah...

Atari is bringing Unreal Tournament 2004 to the PC this fall. Unreal Tournament 2004 is once again being co-created by Epic Games and Digital Extremes. It includes all of the content from Unreal Tournament 2003 - allowing UT2004 users to join matches on UT2003 servers - plus the two free bonus packs released by Digital Extremes and Epic. Also packed into the game are new modes and maps as well as additional characters and vehicles. Fans can also expect plenty of gameplay tweaks and refinements - including unique crosshairs for each weapon and the ability to carry dual Assault Rifles. Also planned are improved bot team coordination and movement as well as network bandwidth optimizations. Key features include:

Assault Mode
The single-player oriented game type returns with battles featuring land- and air-based vehicles on the home worlds of various UT2004 combatants. Players in one scenario pilot ships in space-based warfare while attacking or defending a Skaarj mother ship. Another scenario takes place on Xan Kriegor's mechanical home world - where players attack or defend a robot construction factory. Six Assault scenarios are slated to ship with the game.

Onslaught Mode
Onslaught Mode is a new multiplayer oriented combat game type taking place on custom-built large-scale maps featuring new weapons and vehicles. Players work as teams to control map points and win the conflict. Nine Onslaught maps are scheduled to ship with the game.

Enhanced audio
UT2004 supports live 3D voice chat over a local area network and the Internet - allowing players to sense where voices emanate from. Players can communicate with teammates using a microphone and headset - or just yell at everybody who gets in their way. Several settings are provided to allow users to customize their voice chat usage.

Classic characters
Classic Unreal characters are returning to challenge players in the tournaments - including the Skaarj and the infamous Xan Kriegor.

New maps
UT2003 includes 20 never-before-seen maps for the existing game types - all of which feature new textures and static meshes. Also included are new maps from Digital Extremes designed specifically to appeal to hardcore UT players.

UnrealTV
The UnrealTV match broadcast system allows hundreds of people to view a UT2004 match with minimal performance impact on the game server. UnrealTV is fully integrated into the server browser to make it easy to located broadcasted matches.

User voting
UT2004 is scheduled to ship with an end-user voting system that allows players to choose a game type and maps as well as mutators and other settings. It also provides the ability to remove troublesome players from a match. A custom clan-match voting system allows clans to negotiate acceptable game settings prior to a competitive match.

Redesigned interface
UT2004's redesigned user interface supports context-sensitive menus and offers an improved server browser with enhanced filtering options. It also supports an in-game login menu to improve team balancing. The underlying user interface has been reengineered to be easier for mod authors to build menus and implement their own UI designs.

Wow, that's a crap load of polygons. Unfortunately, according to Software Etc. (I know, it's a dubious source, but it's all I've got) it's not coming out until November. Looks like my little girl is getting a birthday present.
