Unusual rising oil temp
 

One morning while driving to work on the freeway, i passed a construction truck(tanker)that threw oil on my car. When i got to work there was oil on the front end of my car, including the area of the oil cooler. Ever since that day my cars oil temp has been rising very unusually. I have a B-line oil cooler and it would always hover around 160-180 deg. Farenheit. Now it goes up to 200 deg. while driving on freeway. In gear, it heats up faster compared to rolling in neutral. After being warmed up, for instance when i get on 1st,2nd and 3rd gear, oil temp rises kinda quick, then it'll hover and start to drop when i shift to neutral and roll. It constantly rises when climbing a hill on freeway in 4th or 5th. My water temp stays normal so im hoping i didnt stretch anything.

Some insight or help please.

well it sounds like the fins on the oil cooler cannot dissipate the heat fast enough due to it being covered by the oil that is covering it.

With any type of oil cooler it can only cool when the car is moving (unless there is a electric fan connected) however if the fins are soiled then it'll hold the heat in like an insulator.

I would recommend if you haven't already putting a strong degreaser on the oil cooler. Don't leave it on there to long since it could damage the painted finish if there is one and also damage the cooler since the material is the most fragile there. Changing your oil if you haven't done so already and obviously changing your oil filter.

Havent tried a degreaser yet cuz. I dont know if simple green will potentially harm the cooler. Ive only used a water hose with a mist nozzle. You know of a product that could help?

well. I've always used super clean or oil eater. They are concentrated so you can dilute them to make it less stringent.

The degreaser should cut through baked on oil residue.

simple green will work and it wont damage anything and that too comes in concetrated strength spray it on use a soft nylon brush let it sit spray some more scrub some more let it sit for a little bit then rinse should work fine....
