Single Track MTB trails/weekend fun

Anyone have some favs? Or might want to do a group ride on the weekends? I've been hitting some stuff around Kailua, but I know there MUST be good trails elsewhere.

There are lots of trails! (nothing i've hit, but i want to!)

dunno if my top-of-the-line mongoose can hang though...

i go to Royal Summit...oahu's MTB mecca.

RS(like ted said ^), DH Camp Timberline in Makakilo (race this month...23rd?), DH at St Louis, DH at Kaleheo, Olomano, Norfolk, Rock Quary near kapolei, Peacock flats, sunset hills, Laie, Kualoa ranch.

We meet at Kanewai Park by UH Manoa almost every Tues and Sat. We do downhill shuttle runs from wa'ahila rec. center up the ridge.

I ride RS at least once a week also.

Chad, are the downhill runs actual downhill courses or are they something I can do with a hardtail and not have everyone waiting at the bottom?

I'm going to check out Royal Summit on sat!

spinplay01 Oct 6, 2011 04:15 PM

There are multiple trails down the hill. They all can be done on a hardtail, but some may be a little rough. There are a couple that can be easily don on a hardtail.

My friend Glen rides down on his single speed dirt jumper.

Pads and a full-face helmet are a good idea though.

You can take your time coming down. We sit for like 20 minutes between runs...cat calling the ladies. haha

I'm actually free tomorrow morning after 930 or so - live in downtown... where's the RS trail? wanna pm/post me a map?

Krang Oct 7, 2011 07:54 PM

I actually don't know exactly where it is, but I know the area.

I'm going to just drive up the road until I spot a bunch of bike racks and hikers, it's worked multiple times before trying to find trailheads so I'm starting there. If your down I'm going to try and ride for a couple hours and head out before the 1pm sun starts eating me.

spinplay01 Oct 7, 2011 09:41 PM

Just drive up to the very top until you can't go any further. Then you will see a fenced off jeep road. Be nice to the residents there. It isn't exactly legal. DLNR has kick us out before, so dont make a big scene or be an dong at the trailhead.

check and check - thanks for the heads up Chad,

yeah, i'd be down - dunno how well i'll hang with my pos bike, but worth a shot! haha - i've got all the gear i need, may swap to my mtb clipless pedals tonight... but yeah, 10 to whenever sounds like fun, even if i squeeze in an hour or two

___

-camelbak
