Dude, I've been researching crap all day, all I can say is the more I learn the more confused I'm getting.

Here is a good link for this thread tho.
http://quantum-racing.com/shopsite_s...l/TurboIC.html

I've come to only 3 conclusions so far. The STI short block, Vishnu Fuel rails $495, and Greddy 720cc injectors $460 from WRXTuner. I'm still contemplating either the Autronic/Utec/AEM.

http://www.aempower.com/product_ems.asp

Do you have any idea of the cost of the AEM or when its coming out? It looks like it can do a 'bunch of shiet'

Most of the confusion lies in the turbo seleciton 'of course' I've narrowed it down to PE1820, AVO 450, AVO 500, SR-50, T3/T4, 20G, 60-1.

Looking forward to your inputs. Remember my goal is 400+hp but I don't want to run the risk of destroying my tranny or dif. I also prefer a direct bolt on replacement.

I read somewhere they come with base maps, but how difficult will it be to dial in to my specific application? A little off topic, but I'm already nervous about road tuning this thing on my 'home course'.

which ems are you talking about? Both of them should come with whatever 'base' map they have for your car. People swap maps too, ... you just gotta pay attention to what you're using, ... "trust no one."

I've liked the AEM ems since day one, .... so I think I'll end up using it someday. If you still want Justin to tune it right off the bat, ... he shoudl be able to do it, ... Faird mentioned that he didn't like it too much b/c he couldn't be as "proprietary" as he likes to be. B/c with the aem software, you can cut/paste/copy just about everything. That's just a part of it's beauty.

That XS engineering 500hp Garrett GT turbo looks pretty damn promising. Do you think I'd need 800cc injectors for that or do you think 720cc should be fine. Keep in mind the 800cc injectors are from $700 -$800 and the 720cc Greddy's are $460.

Yeah, ....... BRAKES!!

... and you're going to need a clutch sometime or another We have 'a line' on stock clutches, ... so maybe you can get by with them for a while. Plus they'll be much "nicer" on the drivetrain.
But figure a grand for a nice clutch/flywheel setup, ... or something like the Exedy Twin disk.

Rexstang,

These are actually made for the GC8. It will fit on the GDA, but the rails will cause the injectors to spray at an angle.

For brakes, Nino has used Perrin Willwoods frotn and rears for sale.

Do you know if the XS turbo is dual ball bearing?

I saw those brakes in nino's in the vendor section. If I only had 17's, I would jump at them. good price.

BTW, JAy, did you get my PM?

They fit under stock 16 in. rims. Push2 has them installed with stock rims and oldmansan has them with his 16in. SSR rims.

I only have the exedy sport clutch, exedy flywheel, and STi tarnny mount for my tranny set-up. Would you be intersted in buying gears from Gimme Gears with me in the future or do you think a six speed would be a better investment?

I think you have a better chance in hitting 11's before me. Recently, I tallied my spending for my mods and it totalled over 10k dollars and I'm still without rims, brakes, suspension, and gauges!

I am making an effort to slow down a bit. This project was supposed to be a 5 year project, but I somehow got carried away.

Does it have to be a bolt on turbo? Would you be interested in having an adapter made which would connect to the uppipe and then have a T3 flange? It would also feature a small stub and flange to mount an external wastegate. Kinda like this piece you see here. The hole is where the pipe and flange for the external 'gate connects.

http://www.hpopower.com/hpo_product_...asp?product=34

The thickness of it would raise the turbo a couple inches so we gotta check the clearance and find a way to brace things. A T3/T4 would give you the widest range of turbos which are all easily serviceable by a number of shops.

After that change the flange on your downpipe. Or even cut your downpipe into two pieces w/ a V-band to connect them and then have a T4 turbine flange and just a single piece of mandrel bent piping to connect. That way you can still swap back in the stock turbo.

I've already talked plenty to him about a t3/t4.

For the sake of costs, buying needed parts that he already has, ... a bolt on turbo was his choice, .............. for now.

Dude,

You seem to have some resources. I think I know who to go to once I plan to change my set-up.

I got a lot of ideas here . One thing about modding a MR-2 is that there isn't a lot of stuff off the shelf available. You gotta create your own stuff. I've worked w/ a few machine shops locally to fab a few things.

On another note - Regarding fuel injectors. Do any of you 12 sec guys w/ STi injectors have data on duty cycle and fuel pressure that they are running at?

......... not to rain on anyone's parade, .... but these are the same things I've been saying for years ....

about the STi injectors, ... they're being highly taxed with only a vf30. Richard will be able to give you the specifics with them.

On a good tune I get ~90% IDC at ~19psi @ 7k rpm. I wouldn't want to be flowing more air than I am now with these injectors!

Don't know any specifics, like ET, but I heard of an 02 WRX at Englishtown, NJ that did 128mph with a 3037.

Could be baloney. Hopefully I'll find out first hand in a few weekends.

Yup! Pat, you listenin'? Make the call, and pick up that nitrous kit! Jet it to "kill" and make a blitzkrieg down the 1/4!

We can be building your shortblock in the meantime.
