Open Source Hardware & Software Compilation Thread

1 Attachment(s)
I have been receiving quite a few pm's lately in regards to Open Source Software. To save answering pm's I thought I would centralize all the open source software I currently use into one thread. Below you will find links and a brief description of what each does. If you find any mistakes below just let me know and I will correct them.

Hardware:
Tactrix 2.0 or 1.3 cable
This cable serves as your interface from your laptop to your cars OBD II port. The 1.3 is a little harder to find but are cheaper if you can find them. If you are running a 08+ Subaru the 1.3 will not work due to the 08+ have the CAN systems and require the 2.0

02-03 WRX Reflash connector:
http://www.tactrix.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&category_id=6&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=22&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=53

04-05 WRX Reflash connector:
http://www.tactrix.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&category_id=6&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=23&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=53

04+ STI's and 06+WRX's do not require a Reflash Connector.

Logging your wideband with ROM Raider Logger
To log your wideband whether it be an AEM UEGO or Innovate you will need the following cables and adapters which can be seen on the links below. I have also attached a diagram below of where/what each wire does. Keep in mind each wide band brand may have different color diagrams on what each wire will do.

Here's the Dsub connector that's needed.

Software:
ROM Raider 0.5.2
comes with ROM Raider Logger and ROM Raider ECU editor allows you to data log, edit your ROM (ie. disable specific CEL's and of course tune different parameters).

Logger Definitions
http://www.romraider.com/forum/topic1642.html

ROM Raider 0.5.3 RC6 beta
The biggest difference between RC6 and the original 0.5.2. is the virtual dyno tab. This one is still in the testing phase and there are still bugs in the program so use at your discretion. http://www.romraider.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=6115
use the same ECU definitions and Logger Definitions from above with RC6.

ECU Flash
Allows you to upload and download your ROM to and from your ecu.
http://www.tactrix.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=36&Itemid=58

Learning View
This program will read stored Fine Learning Knock Correction. You can also read Check engine lights with this program and clear them if necessary (reset ecu).
http://www.romraider.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=2772

Virtual Dyno
As the title says. This program is modeled after a Dyno Jet and Mustang Dyno and will measure your cars WTQ and WHP by calculating time versus rpm. Still in the testing phase but a lot of good reviews stating the numbers are very close. The software writer is taking every necessary step to ensure all parameters are the same as if you were on a real dyno. Virtual Dyno just dropped Version 1.0.7

You also will be happy to know I helped contributed to the development of it

Thanks for the post Jess, it came in handy.

Only thing I would add to this, since I didn't read all the threads and based a lot of what I did off of what was written here. Make sure to install ECU Flash BEFORE trying to do any sort of data logging with RomRaider. ECU Flash has all of the drivers for the Tactrix cable in it. Could have saved me some time trying to find the drivers.

^^^^haha very true I made the same mistake when I reinstalled windows after my comp crashed

YuudaiSTI 11-19-2010 01:41 AM

If I figured that out, it would have saved me about half an hour. I eventually found an article online that told me I needed to do that.

But, I got a log or two in, just to try it out. Pretty awesome! You can log pretty much anything!

On top of that you can display any logged parameter as a virtual gauge and you save literally hundreds on buying gauges.

By chance do you have a widenand gauge? I have been meaning to update this thread how to log that parameter. Ie. Aem uego etc etc

YuudaiSTI 11-19-2010 02:26 PM

Not yet, It's on my to buy list. I like the Innovative one, but its some bucks.

Thanks Blake, I try to put some quality posts up every now and then so Joey (Ditchhanger) doesn't think I am a complete sarcastic dick.

Hi Joey :peace:

*UPDATE
I have updated the original thread on how to log your wideband. Enjoy!

Just enough to keep 'em coming back for more...well played.

*RomRaider tip#1 when using Virtual Dyno to see power results:

-when logging to see what kind of power you are making, only log rpm, time, TPS and boost. If you have to many parameters logged you will not get an accurate reading because RomRaider will miss important data points.
