LF: o2 Sensor Socket
 

Anyone got an o2 sensor socket that I can borrow/rent :lol: for an up-pipe install? Did the downpipe on a buddy's car last weekend and wasn't able to get the up-pipe out due to the ingenious design of the heat shield. :doh:

I think you may be able to get it off using a large and long adjustable crescent wrench...Its what I've used several times on my car and to work on my friend;s car too..
This tool is great for the 02 sensor to take off on the 3rd cat (I keep a plumbers wrench too for more bite and torque if you got the cat off the car and sensor to take off..

I use this even though I got an 02 sensor socket....good luck..

I got the rear one off when we replaced the down-pipe. The problem we were having was getting the sensor off of the up-pipe because of the heat shield. There was no way that we could fit any type of wrench in such a tight spot. My buddy said that he checked several places here for the socket & no one had it locally. :noidea:

You should be able to separate the heat shield by taking the bolts off. It will just hang there and you will not be able to slip it off cause of the wire going to the 02 sensor passes thru the hole.

But it will hang loose enough so that you can move it up and away from the heat shield and the adjustable crescent wrench is narrow enough to get to the 02 sensor...Use a little PBblast on the threads...

Another tip is if you have scissor like tin snips (I bought a set from Sears or Home Depot to cut an aluminum sheet to form a cold air box on my old DSM), then you can cut out a piece of the heat shield so that you can slide it off. That way you can put the heat shield on and off whenever you want......
