downpipe help
so.. it looks like my o2 sensor is bye bye...
04 sleeper and I were at vakamon and we were trying to figure out what to do, seeing as a new one would cost 183 dollars... Justin had the idea that it would be insignificant for the o2 sensor to even be on an aftermarket downpipe anyway... we asked ryan.. and he said theres no need for it.. so now my task is to find a way to seal up the opening where the sensor should be.. so far ive gone to home depot and city mill.. none of them have 3/4in bolts with fine thread... any ideas? |
Just use the old O2 sensor, as a plug

that's the thing.. the thread is way stripped...
it got stripped from trying to get it off of the stock DP... and it wouldnt hold while i was driving so it came off and started to drag on the roadway |
hey pete. try hawaii nut and bolt in mapunapuna. they will probably have the one you need.

do you think all cars have the same size thread/size? what if i just go to any junkyard and grab one to plug it up... |
you could try that i guess but i'm not sure. hawaii nut and bolt is easy to find. it's on the same street as rons used to be i think. mapunapuna isn't that big. GL

actually i took the cel fix with me and tried to match it up.. but no avail...

unfortunately checkers or napa will NOT have this 02 sensor available for our cars. I had the same problem with my car when taking it off of my STOCK downpipe. I purchased another one and it cost about what you stated.
there is NO way that you can claim this under warranty. I would just bite the bullet and get a new one. even though the rear 02 sensor is there mainly to monitor the catlytic converter it still does also play a purpose in the way your car runs. the CEL fix will only "TRICK" the computer into thinking that a working sensor is there. JUST GET THE NEW SENSOR. If you don't want to get the sensor (that's what you're sound like...:rolleyes: ) you could go to subaru and purchase this plug that normally goes on the engine block. It's a Alan Wrench style plug used as a test port of some sort. It fits perfectly in the 02 socket hole. probably not. subaruparts.com will have to order these and they should be at their facility in about 1 weeks time (could be sooner since it's small) then they ship it out when it's available to you. Just note that shipping is a *****, just because we live in Hawaii :rolleyes: you could buy the one that I've got for $9,000,000,000,000 (cash only please) ;) - but if you go this route you might has well buy the sensor... or you could buy it from me and I'll buy you the sensor for free :D anyway, you will probably want to put some sort of sealent on but you'll have to do some research on that though! before ordering the parts... call them to confirm that this is what you'll need. If you go to your car and lift the hood look right where the intercooler pipe that connect to the turbo is. Look straight down and you should see a alan wrench plug that is about the size of a half dollar. that is what you'll need. Jon |
try using a metric tap set & re-thread the 02 sensor.

good idea but when I was going through this dilemma I thought of the same thing but couldn't find a di (sp?) big enough and since the threads look like one big mass of metal I couldn't get the correct pitch. Jon |

Once you get AccessPort... you don't need the rear 02 sensor anymore... either way... the cel is telling you the exhaust gas is traveling too fast and not too much related to exhaust gas temp...
Sh!t... I have to get a egt gauge now comes to think of it... :( |
