spray it down with some WD40... that should fix it.

You don't want to run the car to heat up the can because that's going to heat it from the inside out expanding the silencer as fast or faster than the can.

You want to use a low-heat propane torch on the outside/tip of the muffler to expand IT - but not the silencer - then knock it loose...
