2005 Legacy GT...Melting Dashboard Warranty
Hello,
The issue is when the car sat in the sun for any length of time, the dashboard surface would start melting...glistening and tacky. When the car went into the shade or cooled off, the dashboard would return to its normal state.
Great News. I just got a letter from Subaru of America and they are finally fessing up to the fact that the dashboards/door cards/ and steering wheel airbags are having issues...I call it the Melting Dashboard issue...
I had it looked at 2 years ago by Servco. After some back and forth, Servco said they would warranty the parts but that I would have to pay for the installation...to the tune of $1200. I said forget it...I was visibly upset in the fact that they were warrantying Toyota Camry's and Lexus IS300's for the same issue, but not Subaru's...and were denying it...including several that work at Subaru on this board...blindly defending Servco not knowing all the facts. Live and learn.
So, then I recently received this letter saying that Subaru will be warrantying the dashboard issue...you just have to go in before March 31 to have your dashboard inspected at Servco...no appointment necessary.
I would recommend going in asap...before something else changes...

If you got a letter from Subaru of America...then yes for certain. If you did not, you should go into the Mapunapuna Subaru and inquire. I wouldn't call...you will get better attention if you go in person.
I believe the Legacy's had the "soft" material dashboards. I didn't have any issues in my Impreza's, WRX's, Forester's, or STI's of past...just the Legacy.
I noticed now, that my dashboard is cracking in many places...so it has deteriorated more than when I first noticed it...and since, it's had a dashboard cover on it...hardly ever in the sun. It goes from garage at home to garage at work, and back...rarely sits in the sun more than an hour or two.

Yes...for some reason, Servco Subaru is not part of SOA. Which means, they typically don't follow what they say. In this case, they did. I guess they pick and choose their poison.

glad i found this thread. to find out that Servco Subaru has no part of SOA. I just had a dilemma with Servco this past week about the techs joy riding in my car, but of course everyone is trying to protect each other. i was thinking of reaching out to SOA if the compliance department here at Servco on Oahu, doesn't resolve the problem.
