More Power for 2.5XT Forester

Okay, I'm new here and this topic may be covered in detail, but I've not been able to find it. I just got a 2.5XT 5 speed. I love it, but wonder where I can go to get some of that "detuned" power out of the motor. I'm thinking a chip or something like that. Can someone point me in the right direction? I live in the Los Angeles area.

Thanks much.

Milt Olin

p.s. I owned a Subaru Outback Limited Wagon 5 speed before this one. Loved it, but didn't have enough power. This one is awesome.

The XT is probably too new still. I would call or email Cobb Tuning. They are one of the best tuners for Subarus and I'm sure they could get you started.

i know the auto xt does the 1320 in 13.8 sseconds or so, what does the manual do????

It was the manual that Car and Driver got to run a 5.3 and a 13.8. The auto is considerably slower.

like the other guy said go to www.cobbtuning.com they have things already for the XT

my guess is you ought to be able to run 14-15 psi w/ the stock turbo and maybe a piggyback for driveability. if it is the same spec wrx tdo4 that is. other than that a vf23, 30, or 34 would give it some nice topend. I haven't been able to find out the injector size. but they might be the same sti 550's. so you could run quite a bit of boost with those. they are side feed which means there isn't alot available in us yet. a turbo back would give you nice gains and a header as well. I'm pretty sure most gd imreza exhaust bits should bolt right up.I don't see why 400 would be too tough to obtain with mild bolt ons and 20 psi of boost. I think this will be a nice engine to build. but with a bigger turbo you're not gona have that right now power that it has now. that thing pulls hard down low. it just needs more mid and topend.

Thanks to everyone. 5.3 seems awfully quick. The 30-80 time is awesome. Behind a 540i yesterday ad he couldn't shake me.

I'm looking at the numbers and I seriously think they are playing the same game that dodge did with the srt-4. That is one fast car considering it has less hp, only slightly more tq than a WRX, and it has the aerodynamics of a brick. I think they just don't want to upstage thew WRX. I do know they are using pretty close to the same block as in the STI (2.5L displacement, DOHC, AVCS variable valve timing, Semi-closed deck block, Sodium filled valves, Direct Ignition, Iridium Plugs.....) just really detuned.

I'll retract my previous statement about the aerodynamics looks like it has a .35 cod.

You can definitely extract more power from your XT by turning up the boost (mbc or ebc). uppipe, 3" turbo-back exhaust system., just to name a few.. :)

Later!

uppipe,
XTs already have catless uppipes from what I understand. An aftermarket uppipe won't really give too much of an increase.

ah..I didn't know that XTs already have catless uppipe. :) which is even better! no more busting knuckles and sweat to take uppipe off this time around! haha :)

The XT also uses a different turbo than the STi. I would treat it as it's own engine and go from there, rather than trying to play catch-up to the USDM STi.
