No spoiler and no alloys? Are you sure it's an RS?
I made a post about a year ago about buying a first car, (although I made it under hammy48), since then I have gotten my license, some more money, a lot more driving experience, and some research done. I want this car: Subaru Impreza RS 2.5L AWD 4door manual 98-02. My questions are; are there any quirks to watch out for when buying an RS in those years (particularly 98, because that is what I am most likely to buy)? The RS I am looking at does not have a spoiler or the alloy wheels that all the other 98s I have looked at have... were those options? I have found the car I am looking for near me, and for under $5000, and under 90k miles, and I plan on putting $1000 in new 16' all season tires, alloy rims, (it has new winter tires), and a $180 LED spoiler. I plan on putting some aftermarket upgrade parts into it, and I am interested in doing as much of the work as possible, so another question would be what is the next investment that I should make? This is what I thought: K&N panel filter, Perrin Lightened Crank Pulley, Goodridge G-Stop High Performance Brakeline, Stromung High flow cat pipe, Borla Headers (in that order).
it is not an RS. they way you can tell if it is a real RS if it has a sunroof. only the RS models came with a sunroof. they also came with alloy wheels, hood scoop and vents, rear spoiler. 98's were coupes ONLY!!! the sedans had a smaller spoiler and the coupes had a mid size spoiler. the worst thing about the 98's is that the head gasket will go!!!! make sure it has been changed or u will have fun when it blows on ya. the 00-01 rs have a lsd which all the rest do not have. the 01 has a fake carbon fiber trim. here is a link that may better help ya out on RS's http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=677570 |
Okay thanks, that helped, I read somewhere that there was a Canadian version that did not come with the alloys, the sunroof, the spoiler, or fog lights. So maybe that is what it was? I have some better information on the upgrades I plan on putting in, and was wondering if I will need an ECU (or one of those things to trick the ECU, because they are half the price); Borla headers and cat back, with a Stromung catalytic converter, and a K&N air filter. I guess the ideal year that I would want would be 2000.

i don't think it's the canadian car b/c i don't think those are allowed here in the states but i'm not 100% on that one. no you don't need to replace your ECU with those mods. you may throw a cel tho there is like a $15 fix for that one. i have a 01 and it's turbo'd and i love it.

what turbo setup are you runnig? i cant really find much for my 01. how much boost etc...
